Re: New prices and fees? said by loubarouba :@m1stern0x It's not fine print, its the same print as everything else. And building it into the base price would confuse existing customers who have that service. Technically there is no fine print on the page.
But here's the kicker. On the front page it says "Connect to the World for $24.95/Month" and then again on the page with all the fees listed "TekSavvy High Speed Internet Starting from $24.95/Month".
There is NOTHING available starting at that price point (or 24.99). It starts at $26.49. False advertising? Yes. |

 | reply to En Enfer said by En Enfer:Still, a note can be written on the page that customers who subscribed before Feb 2nd, 2012 have a 1.50$ discount from advertised price for DSL 2 and 6... something like that. Or they could simply switch all their clients to the new pricing (including the ongoing "activation" fee) and then apply a credit of $1.50 to clients who activated prior to Feb 2. |

 | reply to m1stern0x No not false advertising, scroll over to cable and you'll see TekSavvy Basic Cable 3 is $24.95 |

For the DSL 12, 16, and 25/7, there is no $1.50/m fee, just a one time charge of $95 (for the customer to be switched/hooked up to VDSL/VDSL2) for new customers.... Note that B$ELL is not offering the Indie ISPs an installment plan on the $95 fee for setting up FIB-like DSL.
Mayhaps an R&V (or whatever) should be filed to ask B$ELL to make THAT change, so that EVERYONE can get hooked up without such a large cost up-front.

If the customer is clearly that ignorant to not scroll down a quarter of the page to view what it entails then I just don't know what to say. And huge marketing ploy!! huge!! that $1.50 is gonna make the world of a difference. People who go to teksavvy for internet go for the 300gb+ of bandwidth, surely the $1.50 u spend a month would make up for the bandwidth overage (which is $2 a gig) after going over your 25gb or 100gb a month, nevermind the $30 activation fee from bell. You're clearly getting personal on this issue. An honest company will clearly state the real price of the product. Why does he have to scroll down the page and realize "DOH, I have to pay $1.50/month extra". It gives the company a really bad image.
And look, not everybody an ordering the internet connection is "TekSavvy" (excuse the pun). There are a lot of people calling to order a connection and the Customer rep might forget to inform the customer about the extra charge, leaving him with a bad taste.
So really, Teksavvy should just be honest and publis the real price: $36.49. If they want to explain the charges IN the current price, that would be great.
said by loubarouba :@Quake110 and Eug How would you go about stating your price to existing customers on the teksavvy res-internet webpage? because the existing customers don't have to pay the $1.50/m charge. I would put a note at the top of the page saying these new prices only affect new sign-ups and email the current customers. |

 | reply to m1stern0x Also @En Enfer m1stern0x, that would be a good solution. Either way it gets messy when you have extra charges that apply to some and not to others. But as I stated before, I don't think a monthly activation charge is a good idea and that they should just have an upfront one-time fee/charge.
I just feel as if Teksavvy is getting ripped on hard for something so small as having an extra $1.50 monthly fee clearly visible lower down the page, especially since they've saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars i'm sure from bandwidth overages I would of had on other ISPs, and that they're offering unlimited usage between 2 and 8am, something no other provider is doing (to my knowledge). I would gladly give them an extra 5 cents a day to continue to be with them. |

And the extra fee goes against Quebec provincial fee. it's impossible for any new customer to get DSL 6 at advertised $34.99 + taxes since the 1.50$ is mandatory.
said by loubarouba :especially since they've saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars i'm sure from bandwidth overages I would of had on other ISPs You know what? Last december I used 20Gb, and last january I used 30 Gb of data. That's low. This february, I could probably use 80 Gb, or maybe 30 Gb, or maybe 250 Gb ? I dunno. Did I chose Teksavvy so I can use 300 Gb per month? No. But if I ever need 250 Gb this month, I can. That's freedom and low price.
That 18$ extra per year is not paying off in any way for the way I use it, on a tight budget.

I agree with this, but personally i don't see it as a huge deal that there is an extra monthly charge somewhere not that much lower on the page, granted it would be easier on the customer, but not something I'd cut my service off for.

 | reply to En Enfer I was agreeing with you
I use at least 200gb/m so i guess our needs differ from our ISP. I used to be with Rogers, and when I went to cancel my plan with them, the lady asked why and tried to find me a plan that suited my needs, and I told her I download a lot, and she was trying to offer me 80gb options, I lol'd hard at her, and told her I go thru that in a week.
And I wasn't aware of Electronic box, but I like what I see from them. Kudos for showing me that |
|
 | reply to Eug I do agree it could've been placed better, but as consumers we really need to start being aware of these minor details, Specially since we live in Canada. When I first signed for teksavvy I scrolled down the website to check for any additional cost.
If you think making a customer scroll down to see extra charges is bad, most sites now have a little tiny arrow, sometimes barely noticeable, somewhere for extra charges/terms of use/etc. |

Eug join:2007-04-14 Toronto, ON | said by JCohen:At least they renamed it on the DSL page to "Activation Charge" instead of "Network Access Fee". Well, both names are lame. Why would someone need to activate their account every month?
The weird part is that $36.49 is perfectly fair for 6/0.8 service, so it really makes zero sense for them to advertise it at $34.99. Distributel has the same service for $36.99, with an additional one-time $10 Activation Fee and $29 Installation Fee.
TSI could advertise it at $36.49 with the statement NO ACTIVATION FEE, and that would look much better.
