Re: New prices and fees?

I liked that Teksavvy had a simple price upfront that had everything included. If they need that $1.50 for DSL 2 and 6, and that $8 a month for the modem for DSL 25, then they should've just increased the base price.

This is becoming a bit disappointing. I'll still wait till March to see how cable in Quebec turns out for all the ISPs and stick with my crappy 5mbps DSL, but I'm not happy with TSI's changes so far.

1. $ 8 mandatory modem rental

2. $1.5 network fee (not seen elsewhere)

3. Every month, we will average the usage for the two previous months. If the average exceeds the Customer’s cap, we will automatically roll them over to the unlimited plan . Our customers will be notified when this rollover happens.

so if your average usage is 305 G, they charge an extra $15 monthly automatically.

4. $4 mlppp fee (unseen elsewhere)

5. ...

It seems that Tek is following the footprint of Robbers, Bell, Rogers...

MLPPP has been 4$ for a while...

Wow.

I am seriously not a happy camper right now. I can accept that the pricing structure has to change because of the CRTC ruling, but the sudden materialization of fees like the $1.50 network fee for 2/6 meg DSL and $8 modem rental for 25 meg DSL as well as the total lack of communication with us does not bode well.

My DSL connection has been a pain in the nuts for 3 months now. I am sick of the BHell tickets that bring no resolution to my problem and I am only waiting for the right moment to switch over to cable, but I don't see much dedication or interest in your part. It's as if you were alienating yourselves from your QC customers.

I really fear that TSI is quickly becoming just another large faceless corporation. You guys had everyone in your hands when we fought to eliminate UBB, you could have done some pretty amazing things, but instead you became quiet and now you're pulling a BHell on us by introducing "What the Hell????" fees.

TSI - the little company that once could. I already miss you.

I'm gobsmacked..I really believed in Tek..wth happened?
I already jumped ship and went to acanac for a year ($400 6Mbps dryloop unlimited) I prepaid a year and figured when that's up ..I'll look again - thinking I can always go back to tek when they come to their senses. After these increases - always the highest % increase to the bread and butter DSL basic ..now this fee targeted on the the DSL again.
Dang..what's happened to that company??

The link to the original price increase is still there.

No where does it mentions this new dsl network fee.

Was the web site hacked? This can be a possibility until someone from Teksavvy confirms this.

edit: confirmed with teksavvy csr, this is not a mistake or hacked. The new dsl6 bill for is really $34.99 + $1.50 . I just called and cancelled. I was planning on keeping tek for a little while longer while I tested ebox but this seals it for me.

i think tek is finished. it seems they want to make money as before and they are now charging fees. wake up tek see what others are giving . Acanac is giving free dry loop with much lower monthly feed. time to say goodbye

That would be the sound of me heading for the exits.

It was a good run TSI, but you're Bell Jr now. Bye!

Gosh, what has happened to Teksavvy?

network fees? 8$ modem rentals? barely any replies in the Quebec cable thread?

I remember when Teksavvy was doing everything they could for their customers. It seems those days are long gone.

Where you've been for two years Teksavvy hasn't been decent company for about that time frame. Distributel offers better deals then Teksavvy now days that's how sad they've become.

That they do. I have just put in an order for Distributel's cable service. I will be trialing the service for the next month beside my Teksavvy line and if no problems, I will be dropping Teksavvy next month. Not worth it to pay $51/month (with this new fee) for 6Mbps when I can get 2x the speed for the same price, or even 4x the speed for a bit more.

While I don't completely agree with the added costs.. I doubt TekSavvy will be the only ones should another independent grow to the same size due to mass switching. It's just a pattern that always happens when a small provider grows to a big one.

Gang,

The $1.50 is only on new sign-ups and it's a straight pass-through from what we're being charged from Bell. It's an activation charge effectively but converted into a monthly. It's straight out of the tariff.

It's a basic shift in how we're pricing things which is to reflect what our rates are separately from what we're being charged by the incumbents.

I'm not a huge fan of this either for what it's worth. Times have changed and we need to deal with the new realities that incumbents are increasingly putting the screws to us. It will be bumpy until things stabilize.

I suppose the advertising on the back of TTC buses and bus shelters is no longer true...

It said "No hidden fees".

Marc, put is as an activation fee ... or include it in the monthly price. You cannot have it as an additional hidden fee. I'm 99.9% sure it is illegal this way. Consumer Protection Act ...

Why not make it a choice? You pay the activation fee when you sign up or add it to your monthly bill for 1.50...

Until it's paid off... This $1.50 monthly makes it seem like its an endless charge, and you keep paying for it even if you've paid off the activation fee...

How much is it anyway, the activation fee for 2/6meg?

I guess my question is why didn't this pop up a month ago when new prices were posted so that people looking into upgrading today wouldn't be going WTF!!!!
