Merging PDF images with PDF text documents

I have very large collection of ebooks in PDF format. They have been indexed in iTunes and I want to add cover art to them. They look really crappy on the book shelf in iBooks. I know you have to merge the PDF files. I able to convert JPEGs to PDF images but I have yet to find a utility, or method that can merge these images with the PDF ebooks. I have tried a couple of utilities to do this most notably "Batch PDF Merger" and I can't get it to work. It seems they do text but not images. most of the solutions I have read about are for a Mac', The PC solutions seem the be in the nature of the Quest for The Holy Grail, only the pure of heart can get them to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'll preface this by saying that before I ever make a suggestion I either have done whatever it is or tested out a theory to make sure it works before bringing it up, but can't at this moment having temporarily uninstalled itunes.

Having said that, I'm still fairly confident to suggest that calibre e-book software might be able to do what you want. (»calibre-ebook.com/). Someone else on this forum had recommended it once and have been using it for a while ever since.

It's an e-book reader that's capable of formatting to multiple types of readers with some nice extra features. It's actually pretty slick.

One of the features it has is to download the meta-data to all your books in the library, which includes images. You can use the images downloaded, or edit the meta data individually. It won't change the format unless you convert it, so it should preserve your original files with the new inserted meta intact (the part I can't test for sure right now) or can convert them to iBooks format (don't know if you use your itunes to move them to an apple device or not).

Here's the tutorial on the software. The part where he discusses downloading meta-data is at about 1:38:

While pulling up the youtube version of the tut, I noticed someone else had a video doing what you want using calibre as the conversion tool. He's on MAC (don't know if you are), but should confirm this would work for you.

Hope this helps,
