Re: [DSL] Blindsided by Teksavvy! $8 modem rental fee!

I got mine off ebay for under 150$.

It's a great device and easily configured and has snmp management capabilities!!!

Good to know.

Can it do bridge mode (i.e. just act as a dumb modem)? I already have a fancy pants custom Linux firewall that I don't want / need to replace.

Used Cellpipe 7130 modems

One of the Bell Stinger Cellpipes just went for $25 shipped on eBay a few days ago. None left though. A unit or two will show up on eBay every couple of months.

But again, it's not as if it will help you since you still need to rent a modem on the 25/7 plan regardless.

I betcha they'd now go for close to $100 if you could use them with TSI instead of paying $96 a year to rent them.

This means that the new customers would be permanently subsidizing the modem rental of the existing customers.

Re: Cellpipe modem for 16/1 service

You explained it and your wrong as Distributel offers 24/1 cable using Docsis 2.0 modem.

They are Doc 3 modems (though it is working on my DOC 2 5100 modem).

And for 20% less then Teksavvy too.

No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake.......

Re: [DSL] Blindsided by Teksavvy! $8 modem rental fee!

That's a complete deal breaker when Bell includes the modem rental and their total monthly fee is $59.95 for 25/7 and they give a huge discount in the first year. Teksavvy is charging $60.99 with the modem rental and zero discounts anytime and on top of that there's the $99 activation fee! At this rate it will be bye bye TSI if I decide to switch to the 25/7 service. Most customers switched to Teksavvy because it was less expensive than Bell and the 100mb cap is fine with me, I never get close to that so the 300gb TSI cap is not an incentive.

But think how GOOD you'll feel once you've followed thru - PRICELESS !

Right ?

Oh for sure. As I said in the Nightmare thread, I just can't be doing business with Cogeco after the unconscionable shit they pulled.

First B#ell-free, now Cogeco-free, and flip over to whatever makes sense for me. Over time, the math works out quite well and I get to vote my conscience.

And please be kind enough to be sure to tell Cogeco in writing why you are leaving, including linking them to my thread about the eMail BS, and to anything else in the various other forums here, to DSLR's front page coverage, as well as to the big UBB Nightmare threads of course, so that they get the correct perspective on how many of us feel, and the several reasons why.

As I said in another thread where I wished you well, I will be reviewing my own options, partially as I only just GOT started with Cogeco, and as my reasons for going there in the first place were different.

Just had a quick chat with a customer service rep over the phone... unfortunately it seems that only existing DSL 25 customers will be avoiding the monthly fee; everyone else (including existing customers in DSL 6, 12, 16) will have to pay it if they upgrade to DSL 25. Furthermore, customers that bought DSL 25 just before 2/2 won't pay the monthly fee if they choose to upgrade to unlimited afterwards...

I'm kinda lost about this fee, was it something that was mandated as part of the new tarrifs and if so why was there no warning to signup before feb 1st?

Would have saved people $96/year

Yeah, there was no warning about it and the customer service reps were not aware of this detail until the last minute it would seem. Otherwise I would have ordered 25/7 300 well beforehand...

Can't believe I ended up lucking out by activating days before. Still frustrated by the $8 rental, for newcomers.

Annoying as heck, especially considering customer service suggested I wait until February 2nd to upgrade my 5mbit TSI service. Grrrr.

Hmm.. I think you still have to pay the 8$ if you're on the 25mbps plan

What you wouldn't have to pay is the 1.50$ on the slower 6mbps plan.
