etaadmin join:2002-01-17 Dallas, TX kudos:1 | reply to blueondemand I hate to ask this but by any chance are you using any torrents clients or any other heavy bandwidth use applications while performing the speed test?
The reason I ask this is because I can simulate your problem by firing up a large torrent download (3 fedora isos) and other apps (tor relay) and then run a test to that NYC speedtest server.
That particular NYC speedtest server seems to give me the lowest results which are about the same as yours. If I test to other servers I get better results (5-8 Mbps) if I quit all the apps I get back to 15/2 mbps. |
|
 | reply to blueondemand Reach out to TWC on the Direct forum » Time Warner Cable Direct
There is no way you should be getting that kind of performance, there must be something wrong with the RF into your home, or on your home network.
Also, are you always using the same SpeedTest.net server? Could be something with that particular server. |
|
 | reply to etaadmin No i never had used torrent or other internet consuming application when doing speed test. When i do a speed test i plug a direct internet cord from my laptop to the cable modem. This problem is always happening to me everyday and get worse on the weekends were Netflix video resolution will not show HD video at all wired or wireless. I had tested with different computer and devices and same outcome.
The only internet hungry devices we used during the day and night is a roku. I haded used torrent ones to download a linux operation system Ubunto. That was like a year ago and never i used torrent ever again. |

 | reply to Engineer342 I dunno. Ive been a huge critic of Time Warner in the past and still am but my internet service has been solid. I subscribe to the 15/2 package and my speeds are consistently 30/1.9 Ping in the high 20's low 30's. I cant complain. Ive seen slight improvements like switching my modem from a Motorola surfboard to a Linksys CM100 and my WRT54gs router to a Netgear WNDR4500. Ive done my part keeping up with my equipment and TW has done their part. It kills me to stand up for them especially after another dispute which didnt affect me but still sickened me anyways.
For those who complain about not getting FIOS in Buffalo. Give it up!. Its not about being racists or only serving the rich in Amherst. Fios can be had in a number of towns all not "Rich" I live in a modest community in Tonawanda which has FIOS available. The only people City of Buffalo residents should blame for lack of options and service is themselves. The city had been in a constant state of decay for over a decade and you expect companies to pump money into your community? For what? Ever heard of investing bad money? The residents chose to stay there in the city living in that state of decay. You can move anytime you want. You could have also started this resurgence we are seeing downtown years ago.
Even with all the positive things happening within city limits most of us still avoid the city at all costs. The infrastructure is garbage, the layout is garbage and most of everything you see is garbage. Its a disgrace. BTW nice rail system. LOL Im done! |

 | Hello,
I live in KCK (meaning I can't wait for Google ) and just switched from u-verse to wideband on monday, they had to install a new line from the pole to the house and a cable modem.
So far it's been running decently but not anywhere near the 50mb but at least its quite stable with no up and down problems.

My question is, should I talk to TW now or wait to see if it gets better over the next few weeks? Maybe there are some tweaks and tests I can do before complaining.
Thanks |
