MJimLayAKA FlexBaudPremium join:2004-10-06 Pensacola, FL kudos:2 | Security Light I have a 2003 Buick Century which has 170,000+ miles on it. It has started a new problem recently in that the red security light comes on when starting the car, or while driving down the road. Is this a sign of impending issues? It seems to be happening about 25% of the time I am in my car now and seems to have started happening suddenly. |

You know, a year or so ago my car wouldn't start and I don't recall if the security light was on, but I went to leave work and wouldn't turn off or do anything but all the lights worked and wasn't dim. I went back inside and a coworker jumped my car off and started right up, but now I am wondering if it was a security system issue at this point. I had my car fully inspected the next day including battery, starter, etc and everything was normal. |

The reprogramming in alldata all relates to reprogramming a non starting car. I listed the 30 minute procedure for you anyway.
Poster mrwaggs had the right idea about waiting 10 minutes I guess you have to go through the 30 minute learn procedure, but to me your car seems to have an intermittent issue. From just what I have read you really need to get the thing scanned. |
|
 | reply to MJimLay Before doing any re-learn procedure (which I doubt is needed since the vehicle starts) you should find someone that can read the codes and see if any DTC are stored. -- mbsastronomy.com |

03 Century doesn't use Passlock if I remember right, so there is no "password" to learn. Is there a resistor pellet in the head of your key? I know you posted a picture of a similar one, but I suspect that is not the same as your own. There should be a silver/black pellet just beneath the head of the key like these. -- -FuriousG- |

 | i have an 02 grand prix that uses PK (passkey) with an rfid chip in the head of the key... nothing but trouble still trying to find how to disable. the ones with the resistor pellet have their own troubles too... |

| Ok, well if you are running into intermittent security lamp while driving, or intermittent no crank condition, your ignition cylinder/key are likely just worn out. You can measure the resistance across that pellet in your key, and wire in a resistor under the kick panel (2 tiny wires in an orange sheath) to bypass the theft permanently. -- -FuriousG- |

| reply to MJimLay The weak link in that system certainly would be the two wires from the ignition cylinder. Breakage is common with age; the next weak link is the security relay, but I'd be looking at the first cause initially. -- "from a broken heart to a hole in the sky" |

rody_44Premium join:2004-02-20 Quakertown, PA | Eventually you will have to do something with it. After a while the car will just start shutting off and requiring you to wait 10 minutes for it to reset before you can restart the car. If you have a second key you can try that but when issues come up with that particular system its almost always the ignition cylinder itself. There is a way to bypass the sytem completely but it must be done before the car goes into theft mode. You tube has some great videos that goes into details that you want to look at. Just search passlock system and they should come up. You will have a much better understanding of it after watching the videos. |

 | he doesn't have passlock, there is no time out, it will not stall and the bypass takes 2-3 minutes to accomplish.
