[DSL] Which Teksavvy plan for watching 1080p

Hey Guys,

What is the slowest teksavvy plan that would allow me to stream 1080p videos? Would the 6 down plan be enough?

Thanks

If you believe Netflix, then "1080p videos go up to 4.8 Mbps". However, when I was trying to watch 1080p videos on Youtube, I would have constant dling pauses with my 6Mbps connection.

Go for 10 Mbps or better.

I'd recommend the 12/1 in you're in Ontario.

6/1 may work, but it's borderline.

That may be partially a YouTube serving problem. I sometimes get pauses even with a 25 Mbps connection, although it's not constant.

I don't think it was Youtube, I could generally watch 720p fine. 1080p always had pausing. I get it very occassionally with 25Mbps, but nowhere near as often as with 6Mbps.

6Mb/s is about 5Mb/s after overhead, so a 4.8Mb/s stream is really cutting it too close. If there's a possibility of someone else using the internet connection while you're trying to stream I'd go for a minimum of 10Mb/s.

It is a youtube serving problem, youtube's 1080p videos have a 5-7mpbs video/audio bitrate, so if you're getting pauses with a 25mpbs connection its because youtube isn't sending you the file quick enough.
A 6mpbs would be borderline acceptable, 10mpbs would be better.
