slow speeds when using upload?

heres a speedtest when im not using upload.


and heres is a speedtest when im uploading something


it get real annoying when im hosting a game lobby on my ps3 or uploading something and it slows my speed way down and gives me high pings. is this normal???

Due to the overhead of data transfer, if you're uploading anything (especially if you have a crappy upload speed like most of CTL's customers), your overall connection will suffer. If I max out my upload at around 800kbps, I can expect pings in the 300-800ms range and download speeds less than 1Mbps. That's just how data transfers work.

Please realize that, in very basic terms, when you're downloading something, you also need some upload bandwidth (how else are you going to tell the other computer that you want something). If you're choking your upload, your download will suffer.
