| [CATV] Cox Communications adds lower-cost TV service tier Cox Communications Inc. has added a television service option that cuts the price of its most-popular package and includes fewer channels.
The new TV Economy tier includes 60 channels, with all the basic local broadcast channels, for $34.99 per month. Coxs most-popular service, TV Essential, costs $59.99 per month for about 80 channels.
The high-demand ESPN sports network and most regional sports programming are not part of TV Economy. The new package also excludes A&E, VH1, Spike TV and Syfy.

What would make the most sense is to go all-digital and put those "economy" channels in unscrambled QAMs that stay on the same frequency. From the user's point of view they setup their TV, scan for channels, and it "just works."
I don't know that I've ever seen a TV that can only tune ATSC - it's always an ATSC/Clear QAM digital tuner. Oh sure, the old stuff would still need a box, but every year more of it dies off and gets replaced anyway. |
