| [Tablet] Some Tablets have them aGPS has obvious uses
accelerometer?
eCompass
gyroscope
barometer
I've noticed these on the old Motorola Xoom Tablet spec. I gravitate to gadget technology, but perhaps they'll never have a practical use? --

 | reply to usa2k Not sure what you are asking about but many apps would not work without those items (compass, Gyro and accelerometer) Google skymaps wouldn't allow you to point the tablet to the sky and show you what you are pointing to for one. -- mbsastronomy.com |

No idea what they're referring to by gyroscope.
As for the eCompass and barometer, well . . . that sort of depends on what you intend to do. I've got those built in to my wristwatch. Still, I'm uncertain that I would have a lot of use for them in a tablet; smartphone would make more sense to me. -- Regards, Joseph V. Morris |

| reply to TheHarvester So does the Samsung Galaxy just fail to inventory such features? Just an example.
Looks to only have an accelerometer?
Its obviously very popular with cell phone companies in one form or another too.
Also the Motorola XYBOARD even seems to lack the gyroscope and barometer.
It just seems like nobody worries about such parts of the tablet. I'm just wondering if people are missing out on capabilities.
I'm a newbie to Android. I've been researching, but have no hands-on. A refurbished wifi Motorola Xoom ( around $350 ) seems a somewhat more affordable choice than many new offerings based on little technology items being present as I had listed.
Or a refurbished Xoom from Verizon is another consideration I have been thinking about.
An still, I've yet to see a review crying foul because there is no gyroscope. --

| reply to usa2k said by »android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?t···roid_FAQ :Gyroscope and other new sensors, for improved 3D motion processing- Android 2.3 adds API support for several new sensor types, including gyroscope, rotation vector, linear acceleration, gravity, and barometer sensors. Applications can use the new sensors in combination with any other sensors available on the device, to track three-dimensional device motion and orientation change with high precision and accuracy. For example, a game application could use readings from a gyroscope and accelerometer on the device to recognize complex user gestures and motions, such as tilt, spin, thrust, and slice. Interesting and at the 2.3 rev --
