Little Black Box Arrived today

So we have Cogeco Analog cable at work it's just for the staff room and today a little DTV box showed up. What is this all about? I was under the impression cable wasn't effected by DTV?

The thing is about the size of my hand with the most basic remote ever.

Sounds like an adapter. It's true that cable was not affected by the digital tranision, but to keep the higher tier channels (such as History, Comedy, etc) an adapter is necessary for analogue hook-ups.

not sure what your complaining about? the box arrived, and you did not have to pay for it. so whats the problem? just hook it up and continue to watch your cable tv with clearer digital signals instead of analogue signals and continue to pay the same monthly price.

Re: Little Black Box Arrived today

Hundreds of these Black adapter boxes are being sent back as faulty. Whatever transition Cogeco is making is ultimately going to make customer switch to satellite tv. Cogeco should just stick to keeping their signal quality watchable since numerous times CTV signal breaks up, freezes during the pre Superbowl game.

My mother-in-law got two of these boxes.

The big PITA for her is she uses her VCR to record programs when she is not home, and since these boxes take over the connection (there is no pass through if they are off -- actually you cannot turn them off) its a real pain.

She cannot program her VCR to record anything other than what channel the digital adapter is set to. (which makes it impossible to record more than on program on different channels, and you have to be sure to leave thing set to the right channel).

I worked around somewhat by using a cable splitter, but still she cannot record the channels which were removed from the analog package.

I know Cogeco no doubt wants her to buy a digital PVR. But she is too cheap for that. Plus she takes these tapes over to people she works with (she is a personal support worker) and watches the tapes while working with them.

Not good!

So you know what happened?? She has entered the world of bittorrent on her Laptop to get the TV shows, and takes that with her. I bet its only a matter of time before she drops the cable package (no doubt the next time the price goes up).
