[help] Black screen on some channels from 101 to 199

Hi. I have cable tv, Optimum through Cablevision. Just basic and the digital channel 100 to 199. I have a black screen on about 10 channels (176,175,172,163,160,14) just to name a few of them. They were missing from April until September 2011 when the fifth tech guy fixed it. The in November I lost my On Demand. So the tech put a trap on my line. Eventually I got my On Demand back, but now the same channels are just a black screen with no sound. The tech guy said that he had to install a trap on my line because he had to. I had four techs here and outside of them telling me to buy the 'family package' there is nothing they can do. I was also told that I wasn't entitled to those channels, but I finally got the field rep to check their online ad and now they are saying there is nothing they can do. I was also told that a lot of people aren't getting their channels and probably don't report it because they don't watch those channels. I had to stop laughing at that one. One tech was able to fix to fix my missing channels in Sept. He said that as soon as he saw the 'black screen' he knew what to do. They last two techs said that I might have to pay for all my tech visits. I am still shaking. I can't afford cat food and I am in tears because of the treatment I got from these 'humans'. Another tech will be here this Saturday. I was told the signal strength was fine. Can someone please give me a solution? The missing channels are some of my favorites!

So, are you saying that you have broadcast basic and the iO digital package with no family cable?

Do you have a HD box? According to the channel lineups on the Cablevision website, you are not entitled to the HD version of the channels you mention (such as Planet Green, Style, BIO and G4) with only broadcast basic plus iO. If you have a standard definition box, then you should get most of those channels in SD only. If you want the HD version, you'll have to upgrade to family cable. Smithsonian is in the iO Gold package, so you are not going to get that unless you upgrade.

Thanks for answering. I have the broadcast basic plus IO digital. I do not have the family package. I have a cable box. I was getting all my channels until a tech came out to fix my On Demand. He said that he had to put a trap on my line and now channels 121,135,136,137,140,141,143,144,158,160, 163, 172, 175, 176, 177, 178, 14, and 101, are just black without sound. I had the tech guys here three times and I was told that I had to upgrade to family or that it is normal to be missing channels. The last tech told me that if I called again that I would have to pay for all their previous visits. I am right that I should be getting those channels, aren't I? A new tech is coming on Saturday because I finally got the phone rep to look on their web site to see that I am entitled to those channels. Finally they agreed but the tech guys say they don't know. I love some of those channels and it's a shame I am disabled on SS and just barely afford my month to month living expenses.

Do you have a SD or HD box?

It's actually pretty complicated. Without Family Cable, you get most but NOT ALL of the iO Package channels. You need to get the "Pricing and Packages" brochure (not available online) for your area to see exactly what you're entitled to.

For example, in my area you would get G4 but NOT G4HD. You wouldn't get OWN either.

You never said where you were located. It makes a difference. I can scan the Raritan system Pricing and Packages brochure.

I have the same problem. When BBC America was added, I was unable to get it in either SD or HD, even though the SD channel is listed as being available with Basic and io Digital. Eventually a tech came and after checking, said a range of frequencies were blocked on the street box and there was nothing he could do as he was not allowed to unblock them. When I find the time ( we have over 1000 homes on the system), I will be checking others in our community who all get Bulk Basic as part of our contract with Cablevision and see who else is denied some channels. I am in Lakewood on the Monmouth io system and have an HD box.

You only get basic in your community? I live in a condo complex and with cablevision we get io family in our maintanance fees. We only pay for the box.

It's better for me, as I use Dish Network most of the time and have no reason to pay twice for channels I already get. However I need Cablevision to monitor our own local channel. I can add messages to our scroll, control the DVD players etc. from anywhere, including overseas, using remote internet access, when there are problems. The ability to use Cablevision when I am recording two live programs on Dish is sometimes useful, hence the annoyance.
