 | DVR continually reboots Last November I had my dvr replaced with the newest model...it was freezing constantly, etc. Before the technician did the new install he checked the wiring all around my house. He told me it would reboot within 30 min. after downloading all the updates, etc., etc. However, it kept rebooting on it's own at various times. (The technician had given me his number and was very insistent that I call and leave him a message if I had any more problems.) I finally called the tech a few days later, left him a message, but he never called me back. However the rebooting seemed to stop so I figured he called somebody on his end who tweaked it electronically, etc. But, it started up again so I called again, and it stopped again...for a while,(although the technician still didn't call me back). This has been going on now for about 2 1/2 to 3 mos, although not as frequently as at first. But, it always screws up any recordings I am making at the time. I have also checked my second tv during these reboots and it's working fine...no problem with that box. I have checked to make sure the dvr is plugged in tight, and all the cables are secure. I am getting extremely frustrated.
The last time I posted about this issue someone suggested that I do a "factory reset" on the dvr but that didn't do any good either. Has anyone else experienced anything like this with their dvr; is there a solution to this or do I just have either live with this crappy service or switch providers? |

 | Forget about the rep who installed it and place a service call. That is what the service number listed on your bill is for. |

 | I am definitely going to do that the next time it happens...it's been a few days this time! |

 | reply to hopsalong Are you using previously installed coax on it? It might be a problem. I had freezing etc. issues but no reboots:
Two different AT&T Techs said my old coax cable tested fine and it was good for the DVR and Ethernet would show no improvement. I had stuttering etc. on it, especially on my non DVR set-top box when using pause/rewind or watching recorded shows and that box had to communicate with the DVR. Finally, I got the DVR (non dvr box already was) hooked to Ethernet and all the stuttering and freezes never came back after using Ethernet. |

 | Before the last tech replaced my DVR he said that my line appeared to be OK, but he didn't test it. The issue you noted is part of what I was experiencing with my last box...the tech said it was first DVR box they had. But, since replacing it with the latest model, as I noted, it reboots on it's own. However, it has occasionally pixelated, frozen for a while before jumping ahead (and missing everything in between, which was the primary issue with the last box). But, from what I can determine, during the reboots my second tv, in my basement, is working fine. Since one of the MANY previous techs that had been to my house in the past said the line may have to be replaced, and considering I don't have problems with the second tv while the first/main tv is doing it's own thing, and the cable is split after entering my house, I think I may need new cable too. (The last tech, who replaced my DVR box, told me one of the biggest problems with the Uverse equipment is that AT&T updates the software faster than the equipment can keep up with it. Regardless, it's a royal pain in the ass. Also, when I use the fast forward or backward button, the sound can't keep up with the picture so I have to press the stop button and wait a second or two for them to get in sync...and AT&T suggestion for fixing the out of sync sound doesn't correct this issue.
While I can live with sound issue, it's annoying as hell . But, the rebooting is maddening! |

 | reply to hopsalong The black Cisco DVR has known problems with freezing & reboots. Mine has been replaced twice and the last time the tech disconnected the HDMI cable & connected the component cables. Something about HDMI affecting the DVR. Check the forum for more info on this issue. |

 | My DVR is a Motorola VIP 2250, and I bought some very good HDMI cables when I bought the TV a few years ago. |

dbeatsonPremium join:2001-02-22 Clover, SC | the quality of the cables is not the issue the new black Cisco DVR has a problem handshaking with some TV's HDMI requires a two way communication between the TV and the DVR, DISH has had this same problem for years with many of the boxes, it is the same problem but with this particular DVR, this hopefully will be fixed in future software updates. -- »www.w4lny.com |
