| FTP Server with web interface needed I'm looking to upgrade my FTP server software at work, to one that will also allow clients to log in via web browser and upload files in addition to standard FTP.
I've looked at several options Including Serv-U FTP, WS-FTP, Wing FTP Server, etc, and all are extremely expensive, at like $2000+, which seems ridiculous...
It doesn't have to be very fancy, All I need is the ability to host up to 200 user accounts (not concurrent) and the ability for each user to have an access to their own directory, and that the same account could be used for regular FTP or with a web based upload form, preferably one that would let you select multiple files in the browser to upload at once.
Any help is greatly appreciated. -- GO LEAFS GO! |

 | FileVista is a great app. AD-integration option, lots of controls, logging, etc. It can use an database to store files, or point to an internal file structure. Setup is a bit tricky, but once it's done, it's really easy to manage.

This isn't self-promotion, we just have it at several clients who are happy with it. |

Ran into this recently and it's free. |

 | reply to HiVolt All browsers have a FTP add-on they could use to access your current ftp server. |

 | reply to HiVolt A round about way to get a web interface for file management/user management is webmin (www.webmin.com) and possibly usermin. It has an interface for file transfers/uploads/management (needs a Java plugin) among other core server management interfaces. You'll need a dedicated FTP server, this just sits as a web interface only, and mostly for *nixes, although I think there is a limited functionality version for Windows.
The way I've set it up for some schools (prior to them switching to Google Docs or other dropbox style setups) - is to 1) install a server (don't necessarily need FTP, but in your case you would) 2) setup webmin - add all the users/groups - then limit them to only the modules they need to see (i.e. the File Management module only). 3) Pop a link on the homepage, and they login and only see their home directory.
michieru pointed out ajaxplorer, looks promising as well.
Good luck. |

Any help is greatly appreciated. I like CrushFTP. I trialed it when I saw what Serv-U's upgrade prices were, and they offer a reasonable $100 one time license cost for unlimited concurrent licenses.
The actual desktop management interface leaves something to be desired, but the web interface for clients to use is pretty nice. They offer a demo of the web interface here it looks like: »crushftp.com/demo.html -- The one, the only, the Insder. |

Yes, I actually demoed Rumpus and I liked it. Problem is, that there is no proper Mac Server anymore. I have OS X Server running on a Mac Pro, but it's not reliable enough without disk or power supply redundancy. It's crapped out a few times in those areas and I dont trust it.
Whatever software I choose has to run on Windows Server 2008, as I have it running on proper server hardware with multiple redundancies.
We regret not buying an XServe when they were still being sold. -- GO LEAFS GO! |
