Holik join:2001-07-14 Cincinnati, OH | RIFT: Now Free Up to Level 20 I play this game strictly for the warfronts, so I resubbed to check out the changes made in the 1.7 patch, the queue times are short since they implemented Mercs which places you on whichever team needs more players (this has made lore fanbois cry a river), also the new pvp ranking system has 40 ranks instead of only 8 which allows a better level playing field. Many other changes as well.
Still way to early to tell if this will draw back other players but it is certainly an improvement.
I also received an email that stated:
"Play for free with RIFT Lite: Play levels 1-20 of RIFT, with no charge or time limit
so I searched and found this article :

If you've been wanting to try it, you will get a good feel for the game during the first 20 levels. -- I'm Rick James Bitch! |

| "Should be" as in ... ?
MMOs cost money to develop, and unless it's designed as F2P from the ground up, the company stands to lose a lot of money from the get-go.
You may as well say WoW "should be" F2P, but that doesn't mean it's feasible or the right business call to make.
IMO, at least, Rift is still a cut above all the "free" MMOs out there. Want F2P? Go play Forsaken World. -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |

I think is a very nice choice for them in terms of server loads, the more people the better. What is the level cap? -- "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." |

 | reply to Holik Well, when your subs are getting raped by SWTOR, and you don't have the huge player base of WoW, you have to do something. |

| reply to Holik I played a free trial or beta at some point up to level 15. I thought it was actually pretty nice, but I think I've burnt out on the MMO until there's something next-gen, so I ended up not liking it.
I prefer something a little more difficult, or at least more sociable. -- A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. -MLK |

 | reply to Holik Well, given that Rift seems to be the most supported game I've played - significant updates near every month whilst still being the cheapest sub game I have played, i don't think there is much they need to change.
I am biased as I love the game and that's likely because it's very social and decently challenging (at high end) for me. My Guild is only a casual raiding bunch and we have lot of laughs in everything we do, whether it be dungeons, pvp, or raids we have skype up and talk a load of rubbish while we game. I find it always makes any game more fun |
