Just set up a new PC but need a single slot graphics card

Today a new budget PC was built in my home, with some friends. It's using the integrated graphics card that came on the motherboard.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a decent single slot graphics card to play World of Warcraft with?

This is a low cost PC, and my understanding is results on World of Warcraft won't be optimal, my goal is to find a video card under $125-$150 with reasonable performance. The PC is a 6 core AMD on a low end Gigabye motherboard with 8 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD drive.

PSU is 500 watts, and it has 12V power cables for video cards.

Thanks for your help.

Do you need something that will fit completely in a single slot, or just the external plate? Basically, is there room on the inside of the case for a larger heatsink/cooler, but the card itself can only use one slot? Newegg has pictures of cards with the descriptions, so you can see if it's single or double. But some of the single cards are thicker, and might be very close to a neighboring card, which isn't great for cooling considerations.

Low Profile - or low profile ready cards will definitely be single slot - but they won't always be on par with normal sized cards.

Any nvidia Geforce 460 and above will work great in your system. The 460's run around $125.

I looked at it, and think there is enough room for a larger (double width) card. My only concern would be the motherboard battery would be covered by a double size card. If a video card doesn't damage the battery, it should be ok. I'll measure the length available, but think most cards would fit.

Thanks for the suggestion. I may look for a 6850 or so type card.

I run dual 6850's and I really like them.

My PC is a budget build. A single 6850 would be all I could fit or afford. If I can even afford it.

Newegg was running a good rebate when I bought mines. It was like 130.00 for a Asus HD 6850. I ran with one for awhile and from my experience it was a nice card.

$130 would be sooo sweet and within my under $150 budget.

I'll start looking for a deal like that.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I put a 6850 on my 460W PSU. Been running excellently and the 6850 is awesome for the budget. I bought my 6850 like a year ago for around $150.

AMD 6770

Check it out. I have one and it does great and I play on a 24" monitor. Just wont be able to crank all the settings all the way.

And this one is single slot like you wanted:

I would pick the 6850 for $20 more as "I AM" said.

I am using two Visiontek 5670 1GB GDDR5 128-bit memory video cards in crossfire and get 60fps regularly on 1920x1080 using Ultra settings. I do drop to 30fps where there is busy video, i.e. within heavy forest scenes in Elwynn Forest, but never experience any lag. Using crossfire with GDDR5 128-bit memory is a minimum level. But with the AMD 7000's GPUs coming out, the Barts GPU on the 6790, 6850, & 6870 should be coming down. They use GDDR5 256-bit memory and handle WOW video requirements well. HIS has some good deals for the non turbo 6790 & 6850 that easily fit in your price range. Overclocking the GPU and memory with MSI Afterburner is very easy, just make sure you have sufficient case cooling.

I want to thank you again for your suggestion. We had a spare 6950 laying around unused. I installed it, and have run WoW with it.

60 FPS just about everything on ultra, no problem. On medium to low settings at 1920 x 1080 I had 9 FPS with the integrated graphics card, at the same resolution with almost all maxed 60 FPS down to 52.

Now all I need to do is find a way to justify using such a large card in a budget computer ...

I just bought a gtx560ti for my wife from Best Buy for arouns $110 runs WoW perfectly and only takes one slot. It is very compact for an nvidia card.

You coulduse something as small as a GeForce450

You don't need a gaming Graphics Card to play wow on ultra. I just bought the 450 and it plays LFR 25 man boss fights at 60 fps. It even plays skyrim on high.

Using I3 processor and 8 gig ram.
