[Northeast] Verizon line gang hanging FIOS cable in Fresh Meadow

I live in an area of Fresh Meadows / Flushing that is still awaiting the arrival of FIOS. My neighborhood comes out of the Main Street frame on Northern Blvd.

I live at the very end of the grid for that central office and have been struggling with the bare minimum speed of hi-speed (LOL) internet for years. Looks like my wait is finally over.

There were trucks hanging FIOS cables on my block and the surrounding blocks in the last two days. I live on the north side of the L.I.E. between Horace Harding Expressway (L.I.E. access road) and Booth Memorial Road, just west of 164th Street.

It looks like I'll finally be able to get some real hi-speed internet real soon. Can't wait to call Time Warner and tell them where to stick their MSG-less cable service. LOL.

I work for Verizon and a friend told me that once the cable is up, it should be 2-4 weeks before the area is ready to go.

Happy days.

I think that may be overly optimistic.

i got fios last October and when they started hanging the orange cable it was back in june-july. However verizon had a strike in August so i'm sure that has to do with the delay.

I work for them, as well.

My buddy, who does that kind of work, is the one that gave me the estimate.

Keeping my fingers crossed that he's right.

That was definately part of the delay.

Managers in Verizon have no idea how to do much of anything in the field, especially a FIOS install.

Add to that the hurricane...we were working for months just trying to clean up the copper trouble load after that.

I highly doubt it's 2-4 weeks. I'm by Kissena and Booth Memorial.

Verizon ran lines behind my house but haven't returned in over 1 month. They seem to concentrating more on the other side of Booth.

I have noticed pole taps on Kissena (right near Horace Harding).

I'm over by 164th and Booth. That's the farthest end of the Main St. central office feed.

That means they are close to finished placing the cable. There's even a FIOS x/box on Booth just west of 164th.

Once the cable is completely placed in an area, that part of the job is closed out. Then the FIOS splicers can start their work. I'm guessing that will start real soon...I hope.

Not long after that, bye bye Time Warner.

They're currently finishing up the other side of Booth Memorial Ave.

There's a FiOS box right up my block with tons of looped up cable.

I to can't wait to dump Time Warner. So tired of having to reboot my cable box once a week.

I can't wait to dump the MSG-less, over-priced Time Warner.

And I can't wait to dump my snail-speed Verizon DSL service.

How often do you get the best of both worlds by changing?

Super-fast internet, MSG, lower price triple-play. Man, I can't wait.

The FIOS x/box, about a block and a half away from my house was just spliced yesterday.

Baby steps.

Looks like they put wire splices all down 59th avenue (from 164th to 156th).

I think my block is the only one in this area with cable lines behind the house.

I spoke with an old engineer friend who spoke to a FIOS engineer in Queens.

He said that we should be up and running by the end of the month. Man, I hope he's right.

Hey MacAlert, do you live on the block where the trees got ripped down by the tornadoes last year? I don't remember seeing any poles on that block.

Nah, I live like 2 blocks from there. I'm right before Kissena headed West.

I really hope that estimate is correct!

Ah man...I'm on the other side of Kissena from you guys...looks like I will have to wait longer.

Got you.

As for the estimate, it is Verizon, so take that for what it's worth.

At least we got MSG back in the meantime, while we wait.

My sister lives north of Union Turnpike across from SJU (11366) and FiOS isn't availabe yet. I wonder when Verizon will get around to wiring this area.

Regards...JL

If you're on the other side of Kissena and north of the Expressway, you should pretty much be in the same boat.

Unfortunately I haven't seen any work done on this side so far. However, last summer a Verizon contractor came around to collect signatures for authorization to work in homeowners' backyards, since that's where all our utility lines are.

FIOS finally

@verizon.net

That's weird. They shouldn't need any additional authorization from anyone. Especially if you already have phone lines on the poles.

That's the thing, they aren't on poles. The utility lines are attached to the houses, and hence you must be on property to reach them.
