Sipgate inbound not working

Inbound calls to my Sipgate 415-598 number do not go through, and they don't show up in the Sipgate logs. If I call the number from a Sipgate account it does work. But from the PSTN it doesn't.

My other Sipgate line (in a different area code) is working fine.

This is the first Sipgate failure I've seen in many months.

Thanks for the advisory!

When did it start?

Any feedback from Sipgate support?

Since I'm a non-paying customer at Sipgate, I didn't report this. I don't even know how. The last call that came on on my Sipgate line was at 15:57 EST, so the outage started after then.

Unfortunately, you almost certainly won't get a response.

Sipgate has abandoned us Americans and gone home to Germany.

--------------------------------

A similar story:

Virginia Dare (born August 18, 1587, date of death unknown) was the first child born in the Americas to English parents, Eleanor (or Ellinor/Elyonor) and Ananias Dare. She was born into the short-lived Roanoke Colony in what is now North Carolina, USA. What became of her and the other colonists remains a mystery. The fact of her birth is known because the governor of the settlement, Virginia Dare's grandfather, John White, returned to England in 1587 to seek fresh supplies. When White eventually returned three years later, Virginia and the other colonists were gone.

I've had a similar issue for the past month. My AC 503 DID from SG is working fine for calls originating with PSTN, AT&T Wireless and VoIP numbers. Furthermore, this DID is actually registered simultaneously to two separate devices ... ExpressTalk softphone at my office and my home SPA8000 adapter ... and both phones ring simultaneously ... with my home phone disconnecting when the ExpressTalk/DialDictate office setup automatically answers the call.

On the other hand, calling my AC 702 SipGate DID from PSTN, AT&T Wireless, and a bunch of different VoIP accounts results in a fast busy ... even though the SPA8000 shows the number as "registered".

Oh, well. This contributes to my strong opinion that one should go with a tried and true VoIP provider if he/she values her/his assigned DID and if one truly requires service stability. This situation is an argument against IpKall, MagicJack, GoogleVoice, SunRocket () ... to name a few.

As may be.

But even if you want to sign up as a PAID customer, they tell you to buzz off, and have been doing so for several months!

Even if you want to sign up 10 users at 49.95 a month, they tell you to go away.

The thing speaks for itself, as the lawyers say.

Constructive abandonment.

To me it looks like they tried to get their feet wet in the US and decided it wasn't worth it. Instead of cutting the cord they are nice enough to keep things going for the ones that already signed up... I hope it continues - I am using one of the numbers to be able to call my peeps in Germany with a US number from my cell...
I have sipgate in the US since they became available and in germany with a local number since 2005 (in case you wonder - yes - I have a valid Schufa - since the RegTP does not allow local numbers without proof of residency). They are certainly not going anywhere in Germany - I simply think they are abandoning their cross Atlantic 'test'...

I agree with your analysis, but remember that they have a lot of PAID customers in the US, so it is more than just being nice.

What bugs me is that on their website and on their last Twitter post in June 2011, rather than be honest they whine about "not being able to get numbers" and that the situation will be resolved soon.

For heaven's sake, that's worse than when a girl tells you she can't go on a date because she has to "wash her hair".

Both the girl and Sipgate should come up with more intelligent and more believable excuses.

My 415-598 number is working again. I sent an email last night but they didn't respond. Anyways, I'm happy because its working now.

So PX, do you think the issue magically corrected itself or do you think that support actually fixed the issue?

Might you consider backing off from your abandonment stance with Sipgate?

Respectfully, no.

As you know, DID's are from CLEC's, and Sipgate have to use the same CLEC's as anyone else.

DID problems often come up with CLEC's and these issues are often resolved by the CLEC without anyone at the Voip provider level intervening.

Now, IF [bluechalk] or anyone else gets a live response from Sipgate, then that would constitute evidence that they still are around.

The situation is similar to Freedigits, which did NOT die all at once, but in pieces:

Using the same phone (my house phone which has worked fine in the past) to call the Freedigits number now results in "the number at extension xxxxxxxxxx is unavailable" or some such phrase.

Then, I tried several calls in a row. Once the phone rang twice and then got a fast busy, once got a fast busy right away and then one time it actually rang through to my ATA.

US Sipgate quality is definitely degrading. For about a year, I have been using one of my two Sipgate DIDs as a forward destination from a GV number. It is my second line, so I don't get calls on it that often.

Last month, I got two calls to the line from the same calling landline in two weeks, and both calls were badly choppy incoming quality, even though my other VOIP services were working perfectly at the time.

After the second bad call a few days ago, I popped for another VoIP.ms DID and arranged it as the forward destination for that GV number, and a call to it the next day from that same landline was perfect.

PX, please PM me an email address that I may forward a recent Sipgate support case to you on.

They do indeed respond to support cases.

I trust you implicitly, all that need be said is that they DID indeed respond to you.

I am glad to hear it.

Perhaps one day they will update their website and their Twitter page as to their future US plans, up or down.

On that day, I will sing Hosannas.

Fair enough. I thought I was more than clear in my previous post(s) from this thread and the earlier Sipgate thread from 3 days ago.

In any case, Ill make it crystal clear. I have received responses from Sipgate support (based in Europe) in the recent past.

Good point - I didn't think about the paid customers - for which this is unacceptable... also just saying 'not being able to get numbers' is unexcusable...
OT: I wonder if you could date while washing your hair (sorry - TGIF mood)
