Adding a wireless N router

I have two Linksys WRT54GL routers, one as my main router connected to a Speedtouch 516 and the other in another part of our house connected by a cat-5 cable to the first router. This is to give me better wifi coverage throughout the house.

I now want to add wifi N coverage.

Can I simply leave my existing configuration alone and add one or two (cheap?) wifi N-only routers configured in a similar way to my second router (no DHCP server)?

If so then any recommendations on N-only routers?

Why not just turn off the WiFi from the WRT54GL routers?

The wifi devices (Laptop, ipad, cellphones) will only choose the strongest signal anyway.

Yeah, just disable the DHCP on the routers you want to use as an access point, and change their default IP to something else than the one that has DHCP enabled.

Actually, it's better he keep the Wireless G, so he can assign G-only devices to that, so it doesnt bring down the N speeds if those devices connect to it.

No, the wireless G would be supplied by the Wireless N routers.

There's no such thing as Wireless N ONLY routers, but you can program them to only do Wireless N (Which he shouldnt)

I am trying avoid buying the more expensive dual-band routers, plus I have Tomato/MLPPP on the main WRT54GL and I don't want to lose that.

I see a lot of N-only routers for $30-$50 so that seems a pretty cheap upgrade if any of them are any good at that price.

Careful with the cheap N routers, a lot of them are only 150mbps, or Wireless N-Lite. Make sure you get one with 300mbps, otherwise it's pointless.

Problem with that, if you have even ONE G device on a N router, it lowers the speeds for all N devices, rendering the speeds of N useless as long as that device is active.

Hence why I said leave the old Linky G in place and leave G only devices on it.

Erm, so this is not an N-only router (300Mbps)? The specs say nothing about b/g.

I have that WNR2000 as a secondary backup for those in case moments. Picked it up at TigerDirect.ca for $25 the same day I bought my WNDR3700v1 I planed to use it to experiment on and try things like DDWRT if it gets bricked and I can't unbrick it, its ok I'm not out a lotta cash, and can easily replace it with another $25 unit.
