[Help] 1992 Oldsmobile 88 Royale

About a month ago the tail lights and instrument lights stop working in my car. I replaced the alternator, fuses, bulbs and switch and this still has not fixed the problem. Any Ideas?

I would start looking for failed in-line fuses, or cooked relays.

Take it to a shop if you replaced the alt for tail lights going out.

did they both stop working at the exact same time? You will be looking for something in common between them if so.

Wiring schematics will prove to be worth their weight in gold if you are not familiar with the wiring and it hasn't been modified.

I too am curious why you replaced the alternator for this issue? That'd be like replacing the brake lines for a belt squeal.

I am also hoping there is more to the story than alternator for tail lights. Hoping forgot to say alternator failed and tail lights are also out.

In doing a search it appears some, but not all, traced it to a bad or shorted out rear license plate bulb/socket/fuse. Not specific to your vehicle though.

If memory serves correctly, this fault may be caused by a malfunctioning turn signal switch. An excellent idea though is a proper diagnosis unless the shotgun/money approach is preferred.

The tail lights and instrument panel share the same fuse and relay in almost every car from that era.

This is something you fix by testing the components involved (switch, relay, fuse) rather than replacing anything.
