If nothing is posted before then I'll post some high iso raw files when I get back |

 jmacd27Premium join:2001-05-13 Toronto, ON | reply to mromero I've mulled over the thought of getting a D4 to replace my D200. My last "pro" Nikon was a F4 many years ago and that remains my favourite body to date, so it would complete the circle to now get a D4. But I am torn with the upcoming D800. I'm kind of wishing for something in between the all out speed of the D4 and the image size of the D800. A camera with specs down the middle of those two would be perfect for my needs I think. I'll just have to wait for image samples from each and make my choice from there.
Maybe I should jump ship and get the Canon 5D3.....naaa. |

LoL 33 MB jpegs.... with the E version
Someone educate me on why you would want the E version over the non E. Other then the fact that the E version appears to give you sharper images from my little research.

 Archer0T8aka UnrealArcher join:2005-01-21 East York, ON | reply to drew Disappointed by this... the lack of IS was a big reason was a big reason I went with the 24-105L instead of it. As nice as f/2.8 is for low-light handheld, the IS works very nicely for all other handheld shots since I tend to be a bit shaky with the camera.
Was hoping to get a 24-70L to compliment it, but the continuing lack of IS makes me reconsider that now.
Now if only I could find the money to get a 70-200 f/2.8L to go with that new-ish 5D2 I have... |

 | reply to mromero Dang. Was really hoping Nikon or Canon would have fully utilized their patent filings and released a body with their version of the FoveonX3 type technology. I was really wanting to know how it stacked up! Guess will have to wait.
But the 5D MkIII definitely does look tantalizing Exit!
As for the IS missing in the new Canon lens, just grab the Tamron. www.dpreview.com/news/2012/02/06/tamron24-70_2p8_divcusd
I'll bet it is every bit as sharp. Their 17-50mm and 28-75mm were/are as, sharp as the Canon and Sigma offerings. -- Images are Copyrighted and use is NOT permitted. |

said by Gemologist:Dang. Was really hoping Nikon or Canon would have fully utilized their patent filings and released a body with their version of the FoveonX3 type technology. Rumor is Sony is going to beat both Canon and Nikon at that race.
Sony recently demonstrated an Ultra High HD camcorder with a 24.9x13.9 sensor that was for all intents and purposes a knockoff of the Foveon, without the heating problems inherent to the Foveons stacked design, allowing Sony to use their chip for both video and or still imaging.
So what the race is coming down to is;
Sony has the design, and has demonstrated it works; furthermore they have the production facilities to produce those chips in mass quantities in house. This trifecta allows Sony to control not only costs, but quality as well.
Canon has a design similar to Foveon only staggered not stacked, however Canon has failed to demonstrate an actual working chip of that design, Canon like Sony does have the production facilities to produce those chips in mass quantities in house, if they can perfect the design without infringing on Foveon patents.
Nikon is coming in late, real late.
While they may have a design, they like Foveon lack all of the production facilities required to keep everything in house. This triple whammy if you will, increases per unit costs, lowers quality control and as Sigma recently discovered, makes it very difficult to determine in advance of ramping up production, what the true per unit cost will be.
