slow windstream dsl in KY

I've placed three Windstream support calls, and the last was too much. I was lucky to get 1.5 Mbps download speeds and I'm paying for 3 Mbps. The tech said "It's green on our side, there's no problem." I've been having numerous problems with low speeds, especially at peak times, like now. I just checked it, and the first test at speedtest.net showed 0.5 Mbps download speed, the next two were 0.49 Mbps, with the fourth a blazing .60 Mbps. that's when I started capturing pics.

Will they actually do something about it, or is it still all systems green on their side.

Wow, it's blazing tonight, or I thought it was on the first two tests, then they let the air out of my tires for the last two tests. I mean, 0.44 Mbps - you're kidding? Still not even close to half the speed on average that I'm paying for:

I know what you mean. I'm in Wilmore area, pay for 12 and get 3 or less. I have been calling customer service since back in Nov. 2011. Was told they had a problem in Lex. and there was no problems in my area. Last time I called they said an outage had occurred that same day, how convenient.

Things are as normal for me in Lex, and I haven't had even a hint of a problem for a long time. In fact, over 5 years I think I have only had two or three serious (but brief) issues with my service. One of them turned out that my modem was slowly dying.

When you do your speed testing from the Central Kentucky area, use Chicago or Cincinnati servers, as they are always 'closer' in the network. They will give you lower pings and usually higher speeds. When you test to Lexington sites, generally what happens is that Windstream has to send the data to Chicago or Atlanta to hand off to another carrier that has eventually has connectivity to whatever site you are hitting in Lexington. It may be physically closer, but the way the Internet works it is always further away in netework distance. This is generally what will happen to you in any small to medium sized city.

Thanks for the reply BlueArcher. When I use Speedtest.net I use the Cincinnati server. One of the customer service ladies said not to use Speedtest as it would never show more than 10 mbps. She went on to tell me that WS owned Speakeasy .net and it was the site to use along with theirs. What a load of BS! I have always used all three sites and will use different servers because there could be a problem with one and may get a false negative reading.

Shelby,
I apologize for the confusion. While it is true we typically try to steer people away from speedtest.net because it is not as accurate, it will show more than 10m. Another correction: Windstream does not own Speakeasy. We have people use that site because it is a competitor and we can be accused of doctoring the results . Yes, people without a real knowledge of coding and the difficulty involved do accuse us of doctoring results on our own speed test.

There could be any number of reasons. Firewalls, viruses, Windstream equipment issues. Please go to »Windstream Direct or send us a PM with your home number and we will pull everything up.
