Sunfox join:2003-12-14 Markham, ON | Re: 25mbit Ontario DSL providers (unlimited or close?) You know what's funny? One of the reasons I gave for wanting to cancel was the rate increase, and no matching increase in service. Charging $62/month for a limited 10mbit service is stupid.
(And yes, I know the exact same package also offers 24mbit - soon 28mbit - and more gigs, which is another highly annoying point to me, but to get it I'd have to spend another $7 a month to rent a modem, since they won't let me bring my own reasonable priced one.)
To disprove that point, the rep actually answered back, "You've been a customer since 199x. You should be used to the annual rate increase by now." Seriously. |

However when I pointed out how that was more than the actual savings offered by the contract, they were willing to discuss charging back the amount saved over the contract so far. I would speak to a supervisor, your speaking likely with a frontline grunt, They spout the Line. u might get more traction with them Especially given that They one day will want u back. explain u want to cancel due to the Change in price and you were in a contract for x dollars for x months. and they have broken the agreement. if they claim they are allowed to well get them to cite the clause in the contract. Better yet read the Contract yourself There Is a reason i avoid contracts with these companies p:) -- Every time Someone leaves Sympatico an Angel gets its wings.

Sunfox join:2003-12-14 Markham, ON 1 edit | I did speak to a manager (or at least she claimed she was a manager; I have an uncle that worked the worst customer service calls for a major utility, so I know the games they can play). That's who offered the "what you've saved so far" deal.
The only written "contact" is the "terms of service" printed on every bill, which says:
"15. Rogers may change these terms, and any aspects of the service, upon notice to you. If you do not accept a change to these terms, your sole remedy is to retain the existing terms, unchanged for the duration of your commitment period. If you do not accept any other change to aspects of the service, your sole remedy is to terminate."
There is no other mention of contracts or "commitment", except on the point that says you must give 30 days notice and that "an early cancellation fee may apply".
Their claim is that the contact only guarantees the DISCOUNT and not the PRICE, and that a change in price does not actually constitute a "change [to an] aspect of the service". So, they say they can change the PRICE however much they want, without breaching the terms of contract, and tough luck for anyone on the receiving end.
They also claimed that since a long-term customer like me would, by now, know about the yearly rate increase (what, did they send an official letter somewhere that says "Yes, every March your rates will go up!"), that long-term customers cannot claim a rate increase as a reason to cancel.
I doubt a court would agree.
I already had a rather horrible experience with Rogers last fall when renewing my contract, where they offered me deals, signed me up for deals, and then later (after my first invoice was completely wrong), claimed I couldn't actually have those deals. At the exact same time, I discovered I had been overbilled by $115 for the past year (the bill actually lied - said it was giving a certain percentage off, but if you did the math manually it was much less). Despite clear proof of their error, the best I could get out of them was a one-time $50 credit.
So let's just say that I'm not holding much loyalty towards Rogers these days. Even if I cancel Internet, I still have cable TV and 2 cell phones with them... which I would be perfectly happy to take elsewhere. |

Are you going to be offering a 25/7 business plan soon, with the new tariffs coming? Any details you can give? The static IP rate and dry-loop rates are only available if you call in (not sure why). Yes, we will be offering 25/7 business plan as soon as everything is approved.
To be honest, I can't remember the static IP pricing for residential - for business it's no charge.
