Recommendation for internet fax service

We use MyFax right now and have been happy for 2 years but lately they've been really bad. I'll upload a 7 page PDF for example, and hit send and then it will say the fax is only 3 pages and only send 3 pages. Will try other PDFs and it's the same thing, then will retry it later and it works. I did live chat yesterday, it said 6 people were in front of me (this was 1pm eastern time), had to wait about 15 minutes then it said i'm next, then it says no one is available to assist me send an email! I was furious so I want to get rid of it.

My main reason though is because when I look at our volumes, last month there were 7 sent pages and 9 received. Month before was 12 send, 19 received. The highest in the past 6 months was one month where there were 49 received and something like 39 sent. Even if it was 10 cents a page that's still cheaper than myFax.

Wondering if anyone has any cheaper recommendations, or a service where I preferably load up some funds and then it deducts per fax? I'm in Canada so preferably a service that's not all US focused. Thanks!

I have used Onesuite's FAX service for years. Cheap and reliable.

MyFax was acquired by J2.

You had better check to see whether or not they will let you take your fax number with you!

Sometimes it is difficult.

On some contracts, if you can grab your number away, they grab it back and impose a big fine.

You may end up needing to get a new fax number, but also keep the old number for a few months, so you can transition over all your contacts.

As far as a new fax service, OneSuite is an interesting one to look at, and they do have Canadian numbers though not in all places.

Thanks I'll check into those. I don't care about the number, we have a toll free # with Allstream that terminates to my myFax number so just need a local number to change the toll free to. I've never given anyone our local fax.

Oh I remember I checked Onesuite yesterday. Problem with them is their fax is cheap and has a free trial, but you have to sign up for a OneSuite account to get it, which makes you deposit a $30 payment to it so it's not really a free trial, so bit misleading.

That's a OneSuite Business Account, which has fancy tools and the possibility of creating up to 999 sub-accounts.

But you don't need that stuff, and your fax volume is quite modest.

I'd sign up for a regular account, not a business account, which only requires a $ 10 deposit rather than $ 30.

They call their regular accounts, regular accounts, they do not use the phrase residential account.

I switched our services away from MyFax as soon as the takeover by j2 was announced. Given your post I'm glad I did.

Now we use AcroVoice's fax-to-email and email-to-fax services. Its owner Trev is a regular contributor to this forum. It's $15/month. One useful feature they have that MyFax does not is that they can encrypt incoming faxes based on a public key you supply, if you need to be protected from liability for any reason.

I have evaluated many, many internet fax services but AcroVoice is the only one I've found that's been able to match the success rate of an actual fax machine on a POTS line. Well, MyFax did too, but that ship has sailed.

Take a look at Vitelity's vFax service as well. It worked well for me when I had it. The price was fairly reasonable as well.
I now have a fax server, so I no longer use their service.

Unfortunately, although Vitelity has Canadian phone numbers available, their vFax service is only available in the US (48 states).

Thanks everyone I'll check those. So far OneSuite is less than stellar. First I clicked regular and put $10 and paypal and hit continue and it says error you need a browser that supports cookies. I'm using Chrome and I have cookies enabled. Hit it again and it said thanks you've been signed up, never asked for PayPal payment. I got an email confirmation to confirm sign up so I did that, then it says my account is active and to log in, I hit log in and it says my account is suspended due to non-payment!

Someone posted this last year:

Well decided to go with OneSuite based on recommendations here.

Not a good experience so far.

Completed the signup form and chose Paypal as payment option. Didn't work - was not redirected to Paypal site and no error message.

Called their call centre who advised I should use IE instead of Chrome

Repeated the above in IE and this did not work either - NOT redirected to Paypal site for payment, and given an error message thet my "credit card was declined" - not sure how that's possible since I selected Paypal payment and had not provided credit card details.

So I decided to use a Visa/MC instead. Enter details - get the same error message of credit card declined

Another call to the call centre - they advise that once a credit card is declined, you have to wait 24hrs to use it again as their system has a max of 1 payment per 24hrs per credit card. They advise to use another credit card or wait 24hrs  Agent refuses to acknolwedge that it could be that their payment gateway is not working - insists on asking me whether I entered the credit card details and billing address correctly.

I attempt the same thing with another credit card and once again same result.

I just shot off an email to them stating that if they want to make it that hard to signup with them I won't be making extra effort - they can either fix their web problems and advise me or contact me to arrange another way of creating my account - otherwise I am going elsewhere.

Sorry about that---when I used them in the past I never had such issues.

Sounds exactly like my situation. Signed up for Anveo and tried to send a test fax to my own toll free number, says you're not allowed to fax toll free! :S

K 100% not doing Anveo. I faxed to my local fax number which worked but on the top of the fax it says something like from "Anveo.com the smart way to use your phones" and then it took my 8.5x11" standard sheet of paper I faxed, and stretched it out like 3 pages long so its like 8.5" x 20 or something.

Anveo is very responsive and it probably pays to discuss that with them.

mdshs

@teksavvy.com

I did, emailed them they replied and said they will check with R&D to see what the issue is and will pass the feedback along about having their name shown on all faxes.

Strange. The last fax I sent was on November 22, 2011 and there was no text at the top. As I was testing a physical fax machine I saw the fax myself.

I sent several faxes on different days during the month of November to test the physical fax machine, and none of the faxes contained any text at the top of the pages.

However, I did notice that the fax quality was very high - a lot higher than those I sent with eFax.

I haven't seen the "Anveo.com..." message either. However, I have experienced the problem with a single page stretching out over 3 pages. I think it happened a couple of times and I couldn't figure out what I was doing that was causing it.

I know you didn't want something from your lower neighbors, but you can get an Illinois number for $24/year at Maxemail. That includes 500 pages/mo incoming, and $0.05/page outgoing.

I've used them since 2006, and they've been 100% reliable for every single fax I've sent or received over these years.

I love extremefax. There are two plans, about $4/mo for 600 pages, and $12 for a lot more. It has a "print driver" that allows you to send right from any Windows application. I've used it for a year and couldn't be happier...
