Re: No m-card in columbus ohio said by highfigh0:Just a question to those who are on the 50/5 plan. Do you see the advertised speeds most of the time? So far, the only place I have seen the speed is in wow's speedtest. All wow can really control is their network. So if you're seeing 50/5 on their speed test site then you are indeed getting it. There are a lot of variables that are out of WOW's control when you start using other speed test sites. Similarly with regards to downloads, it will really depend on what the server on the other end can support, though I doubt there are a lot that will let you download at 50 Mbps (about 6.25 MB/s). I think going with a 50 Mbps plan is better when you have multiple users trying to do stuff at the same time - then all together you all would get close to 50 Mbps. Not so much if you are generally the only user. |

 | reply to WOW_Dan Dan,
I believe I am having the same modem problem as highfigh0. I am on the 30/3 plan. My downstream is consistently around 30Mb/s, but my upstream never seems to test above 1.8Mb/s. Is there any way you could work your magic on my modem as well?
The tech that came out to do my DOCSIS 3.0 upgrade was aware there was an issue, but he was not able to solve my problem. I was told his supervisor would follow-up with me, but I never heard from anyone. This was around Christmas time though, so I assume I got lost in the shuffle.
The US and DS lights on my new Arris modem are amber, which the tech thought might indicate a problem with the channel bonding.
Thanks!

 | reply to highfigh0 Keep in mind most sites won't upload faster than 1.8-2.5Mbps. If all you're looking for is download than 30 would fit you fine. Heck, 15 might. The biggest benefit to the 30 and 50 is the upload speeds... |

 | reply to WOW_Dan I PM'd you that information. Thanks for looking into it for me!

But why don't WOW techs and/or customer service know how to handle issues like this? Almost two months ago a tech told you he couldn't solve it.
Until I found this site I would have followed normal channels when I had a problem. And most likely they would not have been resolved. |

 | To be fair, I think the technicians that come out to the house are limited in what they are able to do. He was very helpful and surprisingly knowledgeable, but he wasn't able to get anyone on the phone who could help him troubleshoot my issue. He was going to get someone out to measure the signal levels at the tap, but I think that request got lost in the Christmas shuffle.
If this had been a more pressing issue, I would have followed up sooner.
I am glad I was able to get Dan's attention since he was able to ultimately solve my issue, but everyone I have dealt with at WoW has been top notch in my opinion. |

 | reply to highfigh Just wanted to follow up with my initial speed tests. I purchased a new router, e3000, and am now getting consistent 50/5 speeds from all my local test sites on speedtest.net . I know there are a lot of variables, but I know speedtest.net is usually fairly accurate, so I suspected my old wrt54g was getting a little long in the tooth. So now I always see:
Chicago: Indianapolis: Columbus:
Don't know what would cause my wrt54g to choke on my internet, but it's been a solid companion for 5 years so I guess it was just time to let it rest
I'm feeling brave today so I'm going to try again to have wow activate my 6120. Feel wrong not trying it since it's just sitting here collecting dust, and costing me 5 bucks a month not using it. May be sending another prayer your way for help, Dan |

 | Just a follow up. Got the 6120 hooked up no problem. What ever the issue was getting it working the first time, Dan, you seemed to fix it all.
Just a side note. Seen a WOW rep at the gas station couple weeks ago. Told him about my problems and how you came to the rescue. Gave him my info, and he called me later telling me that he passed the news along to his supervisor and they would be commending you for your excellent customer service here on the forums. Hope it goes through!
Thanks! |
