Re: [DVR] TiVos Dropping from Wifi/Router Suggestions Moca does operate not just in a point to point mode. So it's not like you need to do dedicated stuff to all the devices. But now I was also only suggesting this on the Tivo's for one Tivo is where you indicated you were having a problem. and yea USB wireless... heh, you can also try just moving the usb cable (get a slight longer one) move the adapter a bit further away from other devices.
The other reason I was mostly referring to Tivo is that the video stream and transfer of content to/from tivo is in modern day uncompressed (it is but barely) so it requires a much higher transfer rate or a longer time.
So yes you can do moca->ethernet adapters all throughout the house. I honestly wouldn't do that unless you were having a problem with other devices. If everything else is chugging along happy on the wireless take the old axiom if it ain't broke don't beat it with a hammer till it is.
FWIW, I'm airport extreme no issues it is a robust router and tends to be fairly solid. Yea for the money you can get one that has ALOT more features. Ofcourse, half those features nobody (in general) ever uses. And you did/have upgraded the firmware on your router right? Even with the new airport utility update there was a new firmware released. If not apple whatever the router is you did check the firmware on that right?
Also if you have a router with no password and are in a busy area. You might wanna check to make sure you don't have alot of piggy backing. Some routers fall over with alot of connections even if the traffic is almost negligible. -- Bryan Laird RCN Engineering |

Don't think this is an issue....nobody strange shows up when I login to the router and do a check. And I have the password and encryption settings enabled.
Again, thanks for the advice. I've actually had a week or so of stability...I don't think I've had to reboot since I started this thread. I still think I'll swap out routers, but unless the problem pops up regularly again, I'll wait for my tax refund before buying it. |

| reply to Komosatp Check your transmit levels at pa.speedtest,rcn.net, if transmit is to high or low your modem maybe dropping. If modem is dropping, it will receive new IP address, and if your router is not refreshing new IP address from modem. You are refreshing it by power cycling it. If this is the case, you will need a Tech to come out and correct. |

1 edit | said by Jay:your modem maybe dropping. One of my network bands is always functioning (2.4 or 5 ghz). Given this fact, could the modem be the problem? I also have a desktop tower wired to my router, and it stays on-line the whole time.
PS....after a couple weeks of stability, I woke up to my 5 ghz band being unavailable...but 2.4 ghz was there and functioning normally. |

But if your dumping the bands your tivo could be getting jacked because of interference causing it to go crazy. -- Bryan Laird RCN Engineering |
