 | [TWC] Cisco 4742 HDC sleep mode Does anyone know if it is possible to turn off the "sleep" mode on a Cisco 4742 HDC box? Or if having a TV hooked to the box via HDMI and turned on will prevent the box from going into sleep mode? (Hopefully this hasn't been asked and answered anywhere else on the forum-I did a search for 4742 and got virtually no hits).
We have a VCR and a DVR downstream from our 4742 set top box but the box goes into sleep mode after 5 1/2 hours if there is no activity with the set top box (ie change channel , look at guide, etc.). We just got digital service last month and are used to programming the DVR to record anytime we are out of town for several days. However we found that we mostly have recordings of "The channel is no longer available" due to the sleep mode.
I had a chat session with Time Warner yesterday and the technician said the sleep mode cannot be turned off and the best solution is to get a Time Warner DVR. We already own a Magnavox DVR that we are pleased with and don't want to just scrap it.
I asked the technician if having the TV , which is hooked to the box via HDMI, turned on would keep the box from going into sleep mode and he said yes. Does anyone if that is true? (At first the technician said no, but when I posed a question about watching the Super Bowl and asked if the box would go to sleep mode after 5 1/2 hours if I had not done anything, he said no-that having the TV on meant the box was being accesssed).
As an aside, I understand that the reason for the sleep mode is to meet Energy Star guidelines, but if I have to keep my TV turned on for a week while I am on vacation so I can record something that sort of defeats the purpose of Energy Star. |

SDV channels are designed to do this. There is no way to stop this, certainly keeping the TV on will not. In most cases the Network channels are not SDV so the super bowl would not be affected.
