Clock on 7232 DVR, none on 7100 STB?

I recently had fios installed.
My motorola dvr has a clock display, but the stb does not.
They both have the same design.
They both look like they use the same type of hardware in the front.
Does anybody know if this is going to change? Will Verizon push a new img or firmware version that has a clock in the stb? Or does Motorola need to make a hardware change?

The newest 7100P2's don't have a numerical LED display behind the faceplate, so getting updated firmware won't fix missing hardware....

This was done to save on hardware costs.

Thanks for the info.
Both the dvr and stb are energy star rated.
We know that the dvr consumes more power because of the hard drive in it.
So energy efficency is not the reason the led display was left out of the 7100.

It costs more to build the dvr.
So why not cut out the led display here?

Strange logic on motorola's part.

An LCD display is a part. That part costs a few cents. If you can save a few cents on millions of DVRs you're building, why wouldn't you?

They had enough compaints that they may make sure the next version they have designed may have a display.

I believe the current HD Cisco model does have a display. It was (is?) planned to be the main model for future installs, but you cannot currently mix Cisco and Motorola models in the same house.

Cisco STB's are limited to 4 VHO's today, and they are not being expanded past those 4 areas.....

Unless everything else is identical, just because one has a hard drive does not mean it will be using more power. My four tuner tiVo premiere Elite draws 20 to 22 watts, yet the last FiOS Hd STB box I had drew 38 watts, with no hard drive. and the only way to stop it from drawing that power was to unplug it.

Even it both the DVR and the STB use exactly the same amount of power, it would still cost more to manufacture the DVR because of the extra parts (i.e. hard drive) that it has.

Since it costs more to make a DVR then eliminating the LED display (and the clock) would make good sense.

It would be logical to get rid of the LED on both the DVR and the STB.

It would also be logical to get rid of the LED on the more costly unit, the DVR, and keep it on the cheaper unit, the STB.

It seems that Motorola has it backwards.
Or maybe Motorola decided to put all the bells and whistles in the "higher end" unit.

That and the fact that too many users would complain that the DVR doesn't have a recording light when it's recording.
