I think he's better than Condit in every aspect of MMA. But Diaz likes to stand and trade and takes alot of punishment. At the end of the night he usually looks beat up even though he dominates usually. Condit has never been finished. If it goes to a decision I could see Condit winning a close split decision. Diaz is the only man at 170 I can see beating GSP so I hope he wins just to add some excitement to a boring of late champion.
On another note...Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson from Simpsonville SC makes his UFC debut tonight. He was 56-0 with 39 KO's as a kickboxer. GSP has actually flown him in for training to mimic Condit when those 2 were scheduled to fight. Thompson is 5-0 in MMA but this is a huge step-up in competition. I have to wonder is GSP had some help getting Thompson in the UFC after training with him. |

Possible KO of the Night candidate. Check it out. I'm sure they will show it on the FX prelims or PPV time permitting. |

What a spoiled little boy in a man's body. I'd love to see Dana White cut him loose with a "as you wish -- bye bye and remember that we own Strikeforce too so you aren't going back there!" comment. -- All of us get lost in the darkness, dreams learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter, dreamers turn to look at the cars Join Team Helix

Hey buddy, you didnt go all out and try to beat Condit. You let it go to the judges, and you know how things go... Just not used to losing this guy, I guess...

pro7070BJ "The Prodigy" PennPremium join:2002-06-28 Inman, SC kudos:1 | reply to Mittvok Diaz was unsportsmanlike afterwards and as much as you can't say it he was right and damn I hate to see someone win a fight by running away. Leg kick, back up against the cage, and run. There were at least 7 or 8 times Condit ran back to the center of the cage with his back to Diaz. It was clear when Condit did get in an exchange Diaz was the better fighter. And if Diaz had another minute to finish that sub in the last round I think he would have. What won the fight for Condit is his corner realized he couldn't stand and exchange with Diaz and told him to run. In fact they told him between rounds he was timing his escapes perfectly. I guess you have to do whatever it takes to win. Diaz needed someone else in his corner besides his brother and needed to tell him to push and stay on top of this guy. Where the hell was Cesar Gracie? Diaz just walked him down back to the center and back against the cage when Condit would run. Diaz needed to fight the entire fight like the 5th round. In the end he lost the fight on points but it's clear that he's the better fighter. If he stays with it I think he gets the Title shot again after a couple more wins.
It's not the first time Greg Jackson's camp has told a fighter to play safe. Dana White has criticized them before. This time it happened to work. No way Condit has what it takes to beat GSP. Of course GSP has became enamored with point fighting of last himself. One thing about Diaz he comes to fight every time. |

I've heard of Wonderboy guy over the years around here as far as being really good at kickboxing and he didn't let anyone down on his UFC debut! He's only a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but his brother in law is Carlos Machado. If you don't know who that is look the Machado family up. Give this kid 3 or 4 years to become a brown or black belt under Carlos Machado and I think he could become a serious contender. He's gonna struggle against the wrestlers until he can become a threat to submit someone from his back. But damn he's a really good striker. |

| reply to Mittvok Judging by the way Diaz's face looked after the fight I'd say Condit ran over him not away. If he didn't want Condit running away then shoot on him which he never did. I hope the UFC learns it's lesson and bans him from fighting again in it's organization because they cannot allow all that good will they have gained by being a sport that its participates are genuine sportsman. The UFC doesn't need to be the WWF and whiny little spoiled who are cakewalked to the championship without having to grind their way up then pout because the belt wasn't handed to them need to be booted. It will kill their product. -- Walls and bars surrounding me, but I don't ask for no sympathy - why isn't Grand Funk Railroad in the HoF?

pro7070BJ "The Prodigy" PennPremium join:2002-06-28 Inman, SC kudos:1 | Man in all seriousness they ain't nobody that grinded their way up more than Nick Diaz. Not everyone knows he suffers from Social Anxiety Disorder. Reason for his being uncomfortable in front of the camera. He usually says what's on his mind. I was thinking same thing as him after the fight. It is hard to fight a guy that runs. Condit had no intention or even try to finish his opponent. He was fighting for a decision. Dana White tells them not to let it go to the judges. What is Diaz suppose to do? He came to fight. No way that means Condit is the better fighter IMO. Just means he pointed himself into a title shot which he cant win.
Diaz was the Strikeforce Welterweight Champion. Dan Henderson got an instant title shot being the Pride Champion when he fought Rampage.
I met Nick Diaz in person a couple years ago in New Jersey when he was there cornering for his brother Nate at a UFC. He and his brother both were nothing but nice to people taking pictures and giving autographs. Nick must have stopped for every kid on his way out of the arena up the the lounge area where we were. Then he took photos for at least an hour. Nice guy IMO, just doesn't like the camera. |

Jay_Formerly known as CarnagePremium join:2001-05-15 Pickering On kudos:2 | I'm going to have to re-watch the fight but you have to know when someone outclasses you in a certain area and use strategy to win.
He knew he couldn't stand up and fight Diaz face to face so he countered and then repositioned. I don't hold it against him. If you were in a fight with a guy you knew had better punching than you, would you stand in front of him and try to beat him in a punching match? Didn't think so...
Sure it doesn't make for a huge entertaining fight but he did more damage than Diaz over all (tho I haven't seen the metrics of the fight yet) and, at least to me, won the fight.
I had it 3 rounds to 2 for Condit. Granted I'm no MMA expert, just some guy who goes to the bar everytime there's an event and spends too much free time at work reading about the sport. -- "The man who thinks he can and the man who thinks he can't, are both right. Which one are you?" |
|
pro7070BJ "The Prodigy" PennPremium join:2002-06-28 Inman, SC kudos:1 | I had it 3 rounds to 2 for Condit as well but could have saw it 3-2 Diaz on aggression and Octagon control which are scoring criteria. The fight metric stats are pretty equal as far as significant strikes go but Condit did have 60 something leg strikes to Diaz's 7. I'm a big fan of leg strikes but not the dainty kind Condit was putting out there. There's leg strikes like Jose Aldo throws that can wear down your opponent and end fights. I just hate to see a guy fight so safe just to eek out a win. Something you never see certain guys do. I'm not saying Condit should have stood there and been a punching bag...far from it. but when you are continually turning your back and literally jogging away from your opponent that's not right either. Diaz just needs to be patient win a couple more fights and he will get his shot. |
