[AZ] Intermittent Connectivity / DS Channel 1 Errors

Click for full size
DS Channels
I am experiencing intermittent connectivity in the form of random packet loss, spontaneous modem reboots, and sustained SYNC failure. My downstream channel 1 is consistently recording 20,000+ 'Correctables' and 100+ 'Uncorrectables' every 30 min. - regardless what frequency channel 1 locks onto, always channel 1 exhibiting the issue.

I have called Cox HSI support 4+ times over the past several weeks and finally convinced them to send a field tech out after replacing my modem as suggested by phone support and the issue remained.

The Cox field tech just left without any apparent fix after replacing all my connections inside and outside and testing 4 completely different modem models. Any ideas?

Well if indeed that one channel is adding up that many codewords in short periods of time, there is an issue on cox's end somewhere regarding that one channel. Because if the issue was indeed at your place, I would suspect all channels would be affected.

So your locked onto 2 upstream channels? I personally find if that one channel is adding up codewords constantly, its probably the source of your problem. So it may be best to make cox aware of that one channel, and its frequency.

FYI, the frequency locked onto by each channel varies every reboot. Note: "...regardless what frequency channel 1 locks onto, always channel 1 exhibiting the issue."

Hmm well that's kind of weird, Where is one of the AZ techs at when you need one on here. If you only have posted about this yesterday, CoxTech1 See Profile could of looked over things from his end for you. He should be back on here sunday, if none of the AZ techs that help out here don't visit before then.

According to my people, it's a bug in the gui. If you leave the page open the carrier will eventually show massive errors.

Should be fixed in the next load of firmware we deploy.

So how does this "bug in the gui" explain the intermittent packet loss (up to 80%), spontaneous modem reboots, and sustained SYNC failure??

It doesn't, he was just explaining reason behind the codewords adding up. I suggest sticking around on the forums here until you are able to see what one of the techs can find out for you regarding your problems. I have had many of issue's with cox's service, and I will say thanks a lot for the day I found this site, and forums. The people who work for cox, that help out here are very helpful. Also they have saved me plenty of headaches from having to deal with calling customer support.

I am no way bashing the people who help run cox's phone customer support. But the phone reps you will talk to most the time, are only good for helping with simple problems, and setting up a tech visit if needed. Its hardly ever you will get to speak to someone from tier 2 or above when calling customer support. So the kind of issue's you are dealing with need to be looked over by someone at cox that knows what to look for and such about these issues. Hopefully one of the helpful cox guys helping out here, can get your issue looked into by someone local to your area, and be more helpful in getting your issue resolved.

can you post some of the detail of your modem log for the past few days? I'm curious to see if you have T3/T4 timeouts and such.

Yeah modem log would be nice but remember to remove the MAC# if there a part of the modem log info.

Unedited Log Sample

Most Recent Entries
99% of the full log looks like unedited sample. Note the incomplete CM-MAC, weird. I only see a single T3 immediately prior a successful sync, 2nd to most recent entry.
