They are already starting to oust some of their own members for various reasons All it takes is one of those individuals to know anything about others. They will be all for identifying others to get reduced sentences and stuff. |

Instead the feds picked up a few kids who used LOIC without any IP redirection. Those kids didn't rat anyone out, because they didn't know anyone to rat out.
Anonymous isn't a fixed group. It's whoever stops in to play that day. Most are temporary. They participate in an event or two, get bored and wander off.

For example, you've got everyone and their brother installing conferencing equipment, but is there any comprehensive and cohesive security plan also being put into place with those installations?
You've got various industries and utilities computerizing monitoring and operations, but has anyone installed more than the mere password-access security software?
When my govt. agency computerized, my office IT person was someone who had been a non-tech supervisor who got sent off for a few weeks training. How many other businesses also just tap one of their employees to be their IT person merely because they know which button on the computer is the on/off one?
The fact that Anonymous can hack into the sites they have - the ones that the public would think would be secure - just illustrates how much low-hanging fruit there is to keep them active for a long time. And they don't need a central organization, just like-minded hackers who are willing to allow credit for the hack to be claimed by the group. -- Patriotism is not waving a flag, it is living the ideals

 | reply to fatness It seems the United States, nor any of the other westen powers can stop Anonymous. I would have thought by now they would have infiltrated them. |

There are possible explanations for this story that don't require hacking into hopefully secured government sites.
According to the news I read they also released a copy of the email message announcing the conference call (with the dialin information). Instead of intercepting the phone call they may have simply dialed into the conference bridge as another participant.
As for how they got hold of that email in the first place, I would look at all those intended participants for whom the time of the conference call would have been outside of regular work hours. This wouldn't be the first time that someone who should know better forwarded confidential email to an unsecured personal email account (in this case to have the call details handy when dialing in from home).
Of course it is far more fun to speculate about a successful intrusion into a secured site. -- Got some spare cpu cycles ? Join Team Helix or Team Starfire! |

 | reply to Cudni What they did was no more an intrusion than a stockbroker listening to an analyst earnings conference.
Getting the email with the conference call details -- that took some skullduggery, but certainly well within the capabilities of most script kiddies. A well-placed harpoon with a loaded .pdf... there you go. |

KearnstdElf WizardPremium join:2002-01-22 Mullica Hill, NJ | reply to Cudni And tracing the call if they did dial into the bridge would be near impossible. Find a cheap seedy hotel that still takes cash, give a fake name, dial the 800 number and record. even if the FBI traced the stray listener they would only go back to the hotel with the phony name. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |

I wouldn't want them caught. For most part they what they are doing helps prick the public conscious a little bit to remind them not to just sit and eat all that is fed to them but to question if all is as presented. However, a simple rule of probability goes against anon the longer they are at it.
