Speed Change: 6M to 16M DSL

Can anyone tell me why we would be changed twice for change of speed?

First they want to charge us 95$ to upgrade to change the speed to 16meg,
And then another 25$ to change again, the speed from 6M to 16M

I understand the first charge to send out a tech. But I don't understand the 2nd 25$ charge, Shouldn't that be included in the 95$ charge since your request to change the speed to begin with?

Will stay on 6M service since this is the case, disappointed with teksavvy.

The $95 is the installation fee and the $25 is a fee that Bell charges TekSavvy to do a speed profile change.

That $120 charge to upgrade is making me think about switching back to Bell if I decide to go to the 25/7 service, which is actually cheaper with Bell than Teksavvy even at full price in the 2nd year.

Enjoy your tiny 100GB cap.

I never get close to 100GB so it's not a problem!

I'd suggest picking up the Dell Grab & Go kit, 4 months of any tier that you want with no contract.

Then why do you need a 25/7 Service?

The 7Mb upstream speed when I VPN into work.

Ah That Kinda sucks, the company won't subsidise it? I mean it is for work...

They actually pay for it entirely, but the cost has to be within reason and if it's cheaper directly wth Bell than Teksavvy then I would have to consider changing.

I thought the $25 speed change fee was only charged when downgrading service (say, from 16 to 6).

Can anyone confirm?

They quoted me $25 fee when I wanted to change from the lite dsl to normal, so I think its for any change, up or down.

@teksavvy.com

i was told there was no speed change fee from going ADSL to DSL2 tiers. only the $95 activation fee and nothing more.

where you getting your facts from jchoen??

if that was the case then cancel and signup as a new customer to avoid paying $25 fee, makes no sense.

I'm getting that from other people that have said that, I can't confirm it myself as I use cable.

@teksavvy.com

ok i guess we have to wait for teksavvy to get everything in order or get someone from tech support to post

i called in and this is what I was told

the only fee you pay to switch to a higher tier from DSL BASIC or 6 to DSL 12, 16, 25 is the $95 activation fee.

there is no $25 speed change fee. you only pay that if you want to change speeds after you activate. like go up from 12-25 or down from 16-12 or 12-6 whatever. so there is no speed change fee only the $95 activation.

however the rep on the phone was telling me that I would have to pay additional $1.50 network charge monthly on the service.

So 12/1 now 41.99 + $1.50 network charge? or is it just 41.99 ??

have to wait to get better clarified answers. i can't switch if i dont know whats going on with fees and crap. total mess atm.

Re: Speed Change: 6M to 16M DSL

I placed my order for upgrading from 6mb to 16 yesterday and was not quoted the 25$ speed change fee. The confirmation email I received only shows the following 2 items.

Total charges for the first month
Qty Item Price
1 High Speed DSL 16 / DSL à haute vitesse 16 $45.99
1 High Speed DSL 16 - Start-Up Fee / DSL à haute vitesse 16 – Frais de démarrage $95.00

Subtotal: $140.99
QC QST: $0.00
GST: $7.05
Total: $148.04

The $1.50 is on for DSL 2 and 6.

They charge $95 even if you wish to go from DSL 16 to DSL 25. It use to be only $25 within the same catagory (ie. basic, FTTN), so going from 16 to 25 was $25. Now it's $95 each move you make. I can't seemt to find the FAQ anymore when it was only $25 for each change within catagory. So, just in the last couple of days the fees went up again!
