 | For now, Bell forces the ISP to rent the modem, so yes you would be forced to rent a modem. -- MNSi Internet - »www.mnsi.net |

At $8/month modem rental for 25/7 plans, might as well add it to the regular price if its forced onto you. I was thinking about switching to this plan from 24/1 cable, but its just a total ripoff in its current state, so I'll hold off. |

 | reply to CanadianRip I was told by an agent yesterday that if I had a modem (the cellpipe7130) that I would not have to rent another one. It seems there is some conflicting information here. |

However, by default, as far as we know, Bell sends out the modem for all 25/7 installs, and then TSI would get charged for it. Hell, it's even been sending it out for some 16/1 installs (by accident).
If by some miracle that agent turns out to be correct, then my purchase of a Bell Cellpipe off eBay last week would have been perfect timing, cuz it'd be worth a lot more than what I paid for it if it meant people on TSI would save $8 a month.

Bell claims the mandatory rental is temporary until they get their modem compatibility issues sorted out - at which time, ISPs will be able to get alternate modems certified on Bell's VDSL platform. Once that happens, the modem rental will no longer be mandatory.
That is why the modem rental is broken out as a separate line item. -- MNSi Internet - »www.mnsi.net |
