MJimLayAKA FlexBaudPremium join:2004-10-06 Pensacola, FL kudos:2 | A complex question... Let's say we have 3 computers and they are all sharing files and are all on the same network.
I am on Computer 2 and I have two explorer windows open, one with the files from Computer 1 and on with the files from Computer 3 and I want to copy files from each... if I do this, does Computer 2 simply "tell" computer 1 to send the files to computer 3, or will all traffic have to go through computer 2?
My reasoning for asking this... all computers are on a VPN and computer 1 and 3 have a fast internet connection but computer 2 has a very slow/poor internet connection... don't want it to be the bottle neck. |

The transfer speed will depend on the speed that the router/switch is capable of achieving AND the speed that the NIC card in each PC can connect. If your router/switch can handle 10/100 Mbps then the network will transfer at that speed. If your router/switch can handle a GB connection speed AND the NIC cards on all the computers can handle GB speeds, then the PCs wil communitcate at GB speeds. -- Mac |

I have mounted shares from B and C. I drag a file from B to C (select move, or copy, doesn't matter.) Computer A reads every byte of the file from the share on B (which means every byte is sent from B to A.) Computer A writes every byte of the file to the share on C (which means every byte is sent from A to C)
If you used remote access on B, for example, to remotely control B from A... and you moved a file from B to a share on C that was mounted on B, then the bytes would only be sent from B to C. -- My place : »www.schettino.us |

| reply to MJimLay You could also remotely execute something like a batch file on one of the computers using a tool like this:»technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi···bb897553 This may prove useful, should you want to automate the copying of files from one location to another.
Some virus scanners may detect that as being a virus and should be set to ignore it. |
