[NFL] Thursday Night Football...

...each and every week.

Well, at least for the first 15 weeks, assuming that they continue the successful opening week Thursday night game on NBC, as they have done for the past several years.

According to the article, every team will appear in at least one prime time game next season.

Weeks 2-15 will be on NFLN.

They're making a mistake doing that. The NFL Network is a money-loser. They could make a good bit more money for the league (both owners and players) by selling more or all of the Thursday night game coverage to another network. After all the crying about the league's financial woes during the lockout, you'd think there would be enough common sense to do that.

I think that's the thing. The NFL wants their network to succeed. In NY at least the NFL Network is not on Time Warner or Cablevision. Having football almost every week will push these companies to finally bite and pay the money to get this channel.

I know they want it to succeed, but they can't get it to do so. It fails to make money every year. They'd make more money selling the package than what they collect in ad revenue showing it themselves. Maybe it'll work this time, but I really don't think seeing Jacksonville, St. Louis, the Redskins, and Buffalo play on Thursday nights is going to make cable providers want the package.

I'm in NYC with Time Warner Cable. I really love watching football, and even if I could get the NFL Network, I wouldn't pay extra for it. If it was a part of the standard package, I'd watch.

And besides, I get all of the games that matter, Jets and Giants games, on local broadcast stations for free.

Thursday night football is a mistake. The reason the NFL is popular is because it's an event. Sunday afternoon. With a special game on Monday night. It's like Hockey Night in Canada up here. A defined time and place for the event to happen. Diluting that is not the answer.

That's the thing though. It isn't going to be in a special package, it will most likely be included in the standard package but the rates you pay for that standard package will go up.

If that's the case, then I wouldn't want it added to my service.

Like many others I don't have NFLN. I don't want to pay extra for those games.

I would rather they had some sort of pay-per-view on the internet. Say $20 a game or something. I bet they could make a bunch of money doing that.
