The beauty of the dog ad is that it's reminiscent of the days when Volkswagen was famous for their classic ads for the original Beetle, which were done by the inimitable Doyle Dane Bernbach (still around as DDB and still one of the world's premiere ad agencies). It's the same kind of whimsical creativity that looks simple and casual but is hellishly difficult to come up with.
