[IA] Buying Modem but need one for phone

Hey guys,

Just talked to my mom and she will be changing from the local dsl carrier to mediacom. She wants to purchase the modem instead of renting it, so I need to find one that is capable of doing not only the cable service but can bring in the phone service too. Can anybody point me to a good modem that will work and won't cost a fortune. Thanks!

You can just buy a regular modem, there is no charge for the phone modem part, they would just run both. Yes, I agree dumb policy but I don't make the rules. If your set on getting a Emta this is good »www.ebay.com/itm/ARRIS-Touchston···ae16c796

So they will provide her a modem just for the phone and we can buy a plain Jane docsis modem? Is there something specific we should be telling customer service so they will provide her that phone modem? Or does the tech drop in the phone modem?

Sorry stupid questions just need to let her know so she can get this arranged.

The tech will have the phone modem with them and will install your modem for internet as well.

Don't buy a phone modem. They are no longer provisioning customer owned phone modems for the phone service. As stated above just get a regular modem and they will use 2 modems.

Last question.

They won't make her rent the voice modem?

We do not charge for the ETMAs if they're provisioned for phone only. If they're used for the internet in addition to the phone, there is a rental fee. You can get around it by using one modem for the phone and another for the internet.
