WNDR3700v3 - No 300Mbps on 2.4GHz Band

I am running firmware version V1.0.0.22_1.0.17. I have the 2.4GHz networking set to "up to 300Mbps", but the device never uses a second channel. Anyone have this working successfully?

I have the same issue. My laptop has Intel WiFi Link 1000 adapter and supports 300Mbps. I can get only 144Mbps.

Read the following thread to learn why you may be having the issue.

The WNDR3700v3 changed chipsets -- now using Broadcom whereas the WNDR3700v1 and v2 used Atheros chipsets. Each chipset manufacturer has some unique attributes in how MIMO is exploited so if your client does not emulate those unique methods [N clients are all unique] -- stuff will work but may not work to meet your expectations.

Finally read the following -- What you ought to know before deploying an 802.11n Wireless Network

I understand the differences in N. I have tried an Atheros 9280 and an Intel 6230 Client. Neither sees 300Mbps on 2.4GHz. They both see 300Mbps on 5GHz. inSSIDer confirms that the AP is only advertising 144 Mbps. The WNDR3700v3 uses a BCM4718 chipset which should support dual stream N on 2.4 GHz.

For the 2.4Ghz band which mode are you using on the WNDR3700?

How many other 2.4Ghz networks are in close proximity to yours?

I see 10+ 2.4GHz networks on my clients. I guess I live in a very connected neighborhood! I am fairly certain at this point that 300Mbps operation on 2.4G is being disable by 802.11n's mandatory good neighbor policy.

Chanel bonding will get disabled but 20Mhz will still operate. Which mode are you using for the 2.4Ghz band?

Instead of using inSSIDer -- makes sure to close it -- use View available networks under Windows then look at Status for your 2.4 SSID -- what does it report after that try individuals channels 1,6 or 11 and see if that produces the link rate you seek.

Also describe where you've placed [location] the WNDR3700

The router is placed in the media room data closet. It is on the 2nd floor and towards the back of the house.

2nd floor is good but in a closet is very bad ... The WNDR3700 needs to be exposed to lots of AIR and not surrounded by walls in very close proximity.

Why do you say that closet's are bad? This closet has it's own air conditioning outlet, so heat/cooling is not an issue. This is simply where all the wiring comes to. There is no way to put the router anywhere else. In a perfect world, the router and access point functions would be separate, but at consumer price points there is no good way to do this.

Why??? -- I will repeat --- The WNDR3700 needs to be exposed to lots of AIR and not be surrounded by walls in very close proximity

Your closet space is I suspect no bigger than 6x6 or 36 square feet or perhaps much smaller --- surrounded by walls, floor and ceiling -- the wireless router needs to be exposed to as much open space as possible if you want better performance from the wireless signals --- to effectively spread throughout your home.

Well, I am an electrical engineer and have a lot of experience in RF related circuits. The overall distance and how many walls that are between the two radio devices matters a lot more than how close any of the devices are to non metallic walls. I cannot re-engineer the layout of my home. My original issue has been explained -- good neighbor rules in 802.11n. The closet isn't keeping those signals out!

OK, You do not need to accept my suggestions, it's a free country.

Following is a good article on Placement and performance in general terms
location, location and location" but U may not need to read this article, U seem to have some preconceived notions supported by your educational background --- which BTW I find impressive.
