[Speed Problem] Flakey DSL actually faster with voice line in us

My DSL is flaking out again.

I've been trying to see what's going on and noticed that I actually get a BETTER CONNECTION with the voiceline in use............

2176 vs 384 (should be 3008) Tested with 2 different modems.

Previously when the DSL is acting up, use of the phone would make things worse......

I don't get it.............

That seems to be it.

I directly shorted the 1st pair of wires for about a minute.

Afterwards, the line was clean (both DSL and voice)

I then tried putting some resistors on the pair.

Anything below 4k, the phone Company thinks the line is off hook (busy,I dial my home phone with cell)

Shorting the line with 5k or above, and everything works normally.

Currently I'm using a 8k resistor to keep some current flowing..

If 8k isn't enough current, I'll drop the resistor value a little.

If it runs clean for awhile, I'll increase the resistance.

8k resistor was too much.

Line started to act up again 6am yesterday.

Replaced with 5k resistor yesterday, and so far so good......

So, you would rather add the resistor than call repair and have the line fixed correctly?

5k resistor: $.99
Not having to call AT&T tech support: Priceless.

That's a beautiful example of why one might stoop to such measures.
