When angry, consider bad ifrastucture

For months I saw slowdowns in DSL service. In the last month I lost dial tone but DSL still worked, albeit spotty and slow. It gets a little complicated...

Compounding the problem was a dying hard drive. With new computer in hand I got connected but DSL was awful. There were good times interrupted by connection faults. Then I lost dial tone. (Yes. I'm all about the land line.)

An ATT service tech arrived.

On the wire, just a few feet from the telephone pole, is a cylinder he called the terminal. It has been collecting water which corroded our wire to the breaking point. Water was drained and wire repaired, but he admitted the problem was likely to recur unless a new terminal is installed. He’ll report the issue but higher-ups aren’t likely to order replacement until cost/benefit meets their undefined criteria.

He also said dial tone needs two wires but DSL only needs one wire to function, though in an impaired way. That explains the last two months of DSL connection problems. Most surprising was that DSL only requires one wire to function.

Summary: Connection and speed problems may be due to infrastucture

But the more you know the more you forget.
And the more you forget the less you know.
Therefore, the more you read the less you know!

Should not that make you more angry?
For every $20 ATT spends on infrastructure, it spends $20M on management bonuses, and $200M on lobbyists, bribery and other malfeasance.
File a complaint with the state PUC for the telco failure to maintain infrastructure in serviceable condition, which is mandated by the utility operating charter.

well in arkansas we have the public service commission.
Let me file with them.
OH WAIT their office are on the main floor of the power company main offices.
YEA THAT WILL WORK

NOT

overall we have NO recourse or say about anything the telcos or any other business does.
