Re: Surprise Price Hike

I just got my February bill and DSL is still the same price.

However, a couple of months ago they started charging me about $6 extra per month for long-distance service that I do not use. That is $4 plus new taxes and fees. So, I am basically in the same boat, but for a different reason.

I have no real options. Just Charter Cable, which everyone seems to hate worse than AT&T.

I have DSL Lite Direct, no phone service. The price is the price, there are no taxes or fees listed on my bill. It's now $29.95. Too much.

I called AT&T today and was able to get the price for DSL Lite Direct lowered from $29.95 to $14.95 for the next 12 months. They said it can take up to two billing cycles to see the reduction, but that they will rebate any overage paid during that period.

We'll see.

You can discontinue the long distance service and use an alternate provider like I do.

I dropped my AT&T long distance altogether, as I use my cell phone for long distance. A couple of months later, they started charging $2.00 per month for not having long distance, which, with extra taxes, etc. amounted to close to $6.00 per month for not having long distance. It took lots of calls and escalations, but they finally removed the charges. Information I found on the internet about the charge was helpful.

Yes, that is what I am talking about.

The very first time I got my reductions, they told me the same thing and they actually followed through and credited the overage against the current month's billing..
