KilroyPremium,MVM join:2002-11-21 Ann Arbor, MI | DPS in a group test 1. While fighting the boss you collect adds, do you?
A. Continue attacking the boss and expect the healer to keep you alive. B. Fight the adds and expect the healer to keep you up. C. Die and blame the tank for not taunting the adds off you. D. Bring the adds to the tank.
2. While clearing trash, do you?
A. Start as soon as the tank engages and go to be on top of the DPS meter and yell at tank for not holding threat. B. Attack any mobs that aren't marked and yell at tank for not taunting off of you. C. Start the pull yourself, because tank isn't going fast enough, not bothering to see the healer is out of mana. D. Give the tank a few seconds to acquire threat and then attack targets in marked order.
3. Unmarked target selection, do you?
A. Attack whatever is closest. B. Attack melee (they scare me) C. Attack whatever has the most health D. Go through a stepped attack healers, casters, ranged, melee targeting tank's target or lowest health.
4. Attacking marked targets, do you?
A. Save any marked targets for last (they are dangerous) B. Kill X first since X marks the spot. C. Leave Skull for last (everyone knows skulls can kill you) D. Use appropriate crowd control and then attack Skull first, X second, tank's target or lowest HP remaining.
If the tank dies, it is the healer's fault. If the healer dies, it is the tank's fault. If DPS dies, it is their own darn fault. -- When will the people realize that with DRM they aren't purchasing anything? |

2. Depending on the situation, mostly D, but depending on the tank, if I know they can hold threat, I will start right in, since knowing they can hold threat there isn't any reason to wait.
3. D.
4. D. Most groups I run with however don't do CC so much, but if a tank marks a moon I will sheep. The fight moves near that CC and it starts getting hit with AoE, the CC break isn't my fault.

 | reply to Kilroy I'm usually tanking, so moot point on most of these.
But when I'm dpsing ...
1. Depends on the add. Some are deadlier than others, and some die faster. But I'll generally move towards the tank - I'm probably already close on melee.
2. D. Although lately I've been on my hunter, so I'll use misdirect (which I've seen a LOT of hunters forget they have - it costs NO focus, people) and start off right away.
3. D. Although some non-healers are more dangerous than healers. Depends on how much healing they do.
4. Skull - X - tank target. Although they will likely have enough threat on the remaining mobs to hold them. -- When the ship lifts, all bills are paid. No regrets. |

2 - A...but I don't pull threat because I know how to play my class, so there is no need for yelling.
3 - A/D...Multi-dotting FTW. SW:P and Vampiric Touch for EVERYONE! Normal rotation on mob with most health.
4 - D...But, like I said, multi-dotting and generous use of Fade when needed.

 | reply to Kilroy I believe the correct answer and the point kilroy is making is it should be D always. Back in the day, if it wasnt, there would be a wipe, back when cc actually made a difference. Personally, I loved when revamped ZA/ZG came out and knowing your class, ccing and tanking and order of attack meant something again. Wish if blizzard released 3 new instances, one would be the speed run while the other 2 would take some cc and skill to finish |

| reply to Kilroy 1. D. even as the healer... I bring my adds to the tank. (hate it when healers run "away". 2. D. I wait for the adds to be "collected". 3. E. I start with a /assist button... If I start to pull aggro, I tab target while looking at omen for the target with most tank threat. If they aren't marked, I can't assume the group knows the proper order (healer, threats to healer, melee, CC'd mobs). 4. D. |

ImmerAspiring GentlemanPremium join:2010-01-07 Evans, GA kudos:3 | reply to tuladrin the HoT dungeons were done well. There are still a few pulls that could really use CC (just for sanity) even when you've outgeared them. I am annoyed with the increasing ignorance for boss mechanics, though. Flarecore... walk through it, man! |

1. B and C 2. A, B and C 3. A and C 4. A and C unless you are a fury warrior then apply B beccause you are an unsung offtank. |

 | reply to Kilroy 1 - E. Bring the adds to the healer, stop attacking, and wait for healer aggro to pull them off me.

3 - E. Attack the next pack to get the element of surprise.
4. - E. Why would I attack a marked target? |

KilroyPremium,MVM join:2002-11-21 Ann Arbor, MI | reply to tuladrin said by tuladrin :I believe the correct answer and the point kilroy is making is it should be D always. That was the point. I just had some terrible groups this weekend while I was tanking and these were the issues that I was seeing. I forgot about having classes with threat redirection not using it.
When I tank I mark the first two mobs and CC on any additional if we need it, on the first few pulls for sure. I'm sorry, but on a LFD group I don't know anything about anyone and want CC until I know we don't need it. I also mark to let DPS know what targets they should be attacking if they don't want to pull agro. If DPS decides to attack the non-marked targets first I don't even taunt since they must be able to handle it and you can't fix stupid.
I am constantly amazed by groups that kill melee first when they have caster hitting casters and ranged. As a tank my job is to be there for mobs to take out their anger while DPS beats them down. Tanks that haven't gotten the memo that they are only a meat shield need to learn that melee is just going to bang on them until the casters are dead. -- When will the people realize that with DRM they aren't purchasing anything? |

 | reply to Kilroy One thing I love about my DK tank is the death grip when there is a caster. That is a godsend. |

Rhenai join:2010-09-07 Bellevue, NE kudos:1 | reply to Immer Agree with the healer's strategy - I learned early, if I pull anything, run to my tank and they'll peel off. I try to share that with younger toons when in randoms - makes both the tank and the healer's job easy if they stick together; unfortunately, more often than not they backpedal when they pull and spread out too far. |
|
 | said by Rhenai: more often than not they backpedal when they pull and spread out too far. I hate a mage's average strategy on that. "Oops, I pulled it. MUST KILL IT FASTER!" I end up taunting it off 2 or three times for one mob.
I used to run with a former guildie. On our forums his signature was: "I pulled him off of you twice already. He is all yours now." |

 | reply to Kilroy 1) E- Depends on fight mechanics. 2) E- Depends on fight mechanics. 3) E- Depends on fight mechanics. 4) E- Depends on fight mechanics.
For everyone of these I can name at least one raid where D would NOT be the correct answer. |
