 | [Other] Faxing with nettalk Hello, first, thanks for helping me. My problem is that I bought Nettalk. It's working perfectly as a phone, but when I want to send a fax, I am having problems. I can send some faxes, but I don't know why, One fax number in specific that I really need to send several times, this one, doesn't go through. What could it be the problem? I really need to use nettalk because is really cheaper than vonage. Some faxes go trough and I haven't changed anything is my fax machine. With vonage I can send this fax number, but with Nettalk doesn't go through. Thanks for helping me. t\ |

 | If your machine has these settings, try setting Compatibility mode to Basic, a lower transmit speed (e.g. 9600 bps), turning off ECM mode, and/or turning on Overseas or VoIP mode.
Putting a DSL filter between fax machine and Duo may also help; try both forwards and backwards.
If no luck, post machine make and model.
If your document is already on your computer, or you can scan it to a .tif or .pdf file, try sending via a web-to-fax service. FaxZero and GotFreeFax will send up to two three-page faxes per day for free. Fax1 offers an 8-page free trial. Or, try a paid fax service such as Anveo. |

| reply to economa Nettalk says that faxing should work just fine. They are so confident that they actually urge you to dump your landline:
Yes, you can use a fax machine. If you are keeping a land line just for your fax, get rid of it! Keep in mind, you must have fax machine that supports VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol).
Frankly, such a statement is a bit overconfident. That's like someone guaranteeing that their team will win the Super Bowl. Well, there are just too many variables in Football and in Fax.
No one should be making such cocky guarantees, and in fact no other company makes such a specific statement.
-------------------------------------------------
So perhaps you should contact NetTalk support, considering that they DID make a specific promise, and ask them to take care of this for you.

Having said that, if you study these pages, you may find some adjustments to your fax machine that could help.

You should also check the website of your fax machine manufacturer, to see what they say.

| said by jason_m:Don't disable Ecm mode! Good point. I meant to include that.
My own view would be, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, don't disable ECM.
HP has some relevant comments. »h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu···ct=59469 |

 | reply to Stewart Thanks so much for your help. You are very kind. I have a fax machine HP 640 and it doesn't have the option to lower the speed. But, I will try the other option you told me. Thanks so much!!! |

 | reply to economa said by economa :I have a fax machine HP 640 and it doesn't have the option to lower the speed. Unfortunately, that machine doesn't seem to have any settings that are useful in your situation. As jason_m noted, disabling ECM may cause a fax to apparently succeed, but arrive with poor or perhaps unusable quality. You should ask the recipient whether it was received ok.
Is your document machine-readable or do you have a way to scan it? If so, try one of the web-to-fax services mentioned.
If you have only a paper document and no scanner, get a free VoxOx account and try sending a fax to that number. If it works, you can then forward the file via a web-to-fax service.
If you have a decent digital camera (your cell phone probably won't do), you can try that as a makeshift scanner. |
