Help with a new build

Hello.

I am currently building a computer and I'm having trouble getting it to work. The parts in question are as follows:

-AS Rock Z68 Pro3 Gen3 Z68 1155R motherboard
-Sapphire HD6870 video card
-Cosair 600W power supply
-4Gx2 PNY RAM

When i have only the ram in the motherboard the computer posts to the bios with two quick beeps. One big setback is that my Microsoft wireless keyboard isn't working. The bios recognizes the keyboard in the USB slot but the keyboard is unresponsive. The keyboard has been working fine with my previous computer.

Secondly, when I add the video card to the mix, the computer doesn't start at all. It starts if the video card is in the PCI Express slot, but once I plug the two power supply chords to the video card, the computer doesn't boot at all.

Is it time to RMA the video card or could there be more serious problems at play?

Thanks!

You have a cpu right? lol gota ask ask as it aint listed =p

If the pc does not power with 2 gpus I would look at a PSU issue...

Kinda lost as to your issue, are you saying it DOES not boot just plain Jane or just with the two gpus?

Do we have two issues here?

I only have one video card. When the motherboard, power supply, processor, and ram are plugged in the computer posts. When I plug the video card in it doesn't even turn on.

Regarding the keyboard/bios issue, not all keyboards play nice in non plug & play environments. Grab a cheap USB keyboard if needed.

If the system has no power whatsoever with a certain component plugged in, you would have to test that part in another system to be 100% certain of where the fault lies. Could be an issue with the part, board, or power supply.

matt5: no POST would occur if there wasn't a CPU installed. Since the OP got into BIOS, we can rule that there is a CPU installed. I think you were being sarcastic though.

Update:

The keyboard works and I've been able to access the bios. I've added the hard drive and the DVD drive and the computer seems to boot fine. Still, when I install the video card the computer doesn't turn on at all. Also, I get two quick beeps while booting and I'm not sure what that means.

I had the exact same issue a few days ago. It was my PCI-E power supply cable to the video card. I was using the wrong one, my PS you have to add the cables, they are not hard wired. What's the exact model on your PS?

Did you pin in the 8 pin cpu power connector on top of the mainboard? page 3, on number 3.

Also, in the bios "PCI Legacy Mode" try it on disable.

Ugh... I made the stupidest mistake. I was plugging my monitor into the motherboard and not the video card. My monitor uses VGA and I haven't built computers for about five years, so i just realized that I need a VGA-DVI converter. It now works and I've installed Windows.

Thanks for the replies.

Are you still getting 2 beeps at boot? That doesn't sound right.
