TCO1962Premium join:2001-07-02 Champaign, IL | [FireFox] "Clear history when FireFox closes" Doesn't happen here. Any ideas why? I've had this "problem" for some time now (multiple versions of FF). I can clear manually but never automatically when it closes. Thanks for any input. |

| reply to TCO1962 Have you ever attempted to check this with a new profile? Just make a new profile, and test it. It know the feature works with my firefox.
You could also do it an alternate way, I have my firefox setup to not save history, it will save the download history otherwise the downloads window doesn't work properly, and I have all new cookies on session only with already set cookies as permanent. -- I distrust those people who know so well what god wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires- Susan B. | reply to TCO1962 Go into about:config and filter for this line of code:
privacy.clearOnShutdown.history
Make sure the value is set to: true
If not doubleclick the value and change it to true. -- "We're your friends. We're not like the others, man, really." |

If not doubleclick the value and change it to true. I thought for sure this was going to be the answer! Unfortunately, the value was/is already set to true. |

| reply to TCO1962 I personally think Firefox suffers from how their profiles work, I've seen too many issues simply fixed by making a new profile. It might be the sql databases they use now, all the various loose settings from multiple versions which might be considered dead data, or even an old setting causing a negative effect in a newer version.
I've fixed firefox more than once with a new profile, just restored my bookmarks, and reloaded my extensions again. In total it took me probably around five minutes or less to fix firefox each time, but it wasn't always the profiles, sometimes the problem was caused by a theme or extension so I could just go back to my old profile while removing that bad extension, otherwise looking for an update. -- I distrust those people who know so well what god wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires- Susan B. | reply to TCO1962 What addons are installed in your Fx?
Anything that preserves data or makes backups?
Edit* After you have verified any addons are not preventing the issu change that setting I gave you in the previous reply to false and restart Fx.
Once restarted change it back to true and restart Fx one last time.
Test away.

BZ you should try this backup extension,it not only backups your extensions, but can create a full profile backup, with all your themes and settings intact.
I always run 2 profiles so that if 1 gets corrupted,I can always use a backup to restore to a new profile or even overwrite an old one.........takes about 2 minutes. -- ~~Get our troops home...now!!~~ |

I usually keep 4 full backups in case something happens. -- ~~Get our troops home...now!!~~ |

ZZZZZZZPremium join:2001-05-27 PARADISE | I do that also but this really is easier.......everything is done right from the browser. -- ~~Get our troops home...now!!~~ |

TCO1962Premium join:2001-07-02 Champaign, IL | reply to TCO1962 I changed user profiles on the laptop, not firefox profiles. That was essentially "changing" firefox profiles I guess. lol
That clear history when closed feature still won't work despite playing with it.
I'm a bit of a newb messing with browsers. I take it I can create another firefox "profile" right? A little help setting this up please?

| Before you create that new Profile make a backup of the old one by moving the entire folder to your desktop or anywhere you wish backup to. After you create the new Profile you can check to make sure the clear cache is working then start restoring items from the backed up Profile such as
quote: bookmarks.html, cookies.txt, hostperm.1, key3.db, signons.sqlite, formhistory.dat, userChrome.css, userContent.css, and user.js
Note: userChrome.css & userContent.css are located in your Profile in the Chrome folder and only need copied into your new Profile if you have customized them previously.
The instructions for creating a new profile are here:
