Sweet WitchBe the flame, not the moth.Premium,MVM join:2003-07-15 Gallifrey | printer crinkling paper Hi guys,
This is NOT the accordian problem, it's a slanted vertical problem.
Samsung ML-2510
I'm trying to print sheets that require three passes to merge three different files.
Pass 1 - perfect Pass 2 - crinkle slanted outwards from about 1/3 from right, just above halfway down. Slant is like this - \. Turn over, pass 3 - same crinkle but it now makes a /\.
It's worse on the first few then fades after about the third copy.
Any ideas?

Got a stuck roller? |

I still don't understand why it only mucks up the second and third passes. -- "While you can teach an old dog new tricks, you simply can't teach him to be a cat."

3 edits | I have a ML 2525 and not sure if it's much different internally to your 2510. Some paper on the first pass comes out slightly curled. If you put that paper back in it is very likely to catch somewhere.
If I print first in b&w and intend to run the paper through my color printer I use the manual feed slot which only makes the paper do one "U" turn inside the printer instead of two.
I looked quickly at a picture of the 2510 and it does not appear to have a manual feed that saves the paper doing the extra turn but you might try it.
Edit, might be a dumb idea, but after the first pass, is the paper's leading edge perfect, or does it show any signs of damage, bent etc. You might try a test running the second pass up side down or backwards. If that works the you can pretty much guess that the damage is being done to the paper by the printer. Honestly I would not run paper 3 times through my Samsung Ml 2525. The cheap 22 pound Staples $4.99 paper seems to fare better than thicker more expensive paper. |

| reply to Sweet Witch Have you thought of merging the files electronically? Many ways to do this but one simple way is to convert to image and then use photoshop (or similar) to merge layers (multiply blend might be best, or "if darker").
3 passes is not usually a good idea, even for the best printers. -- My Site |

Sweet WitchBe the flame, not the moth.Premium,MVM join:2003-07-15 Gallifrey | reply to bgraham The ML-2510 does technically have a manual feeder but I've never been able to get it to work properly.
The leading edge looks all right but I have the feeling the first pass changes the paper just enough to cause the problems. Thankfully I also have an ink jet that printed these flawlessly. -- "While you can teach an old dog new tricks, you simply can't teach him to be a cat."

Sweet WitchBe the flame, not the moth.Premium,MVM join:2003-07-15 Gallifrey | reply to pog I have thought of that, the problem is that two of the files tend to get modified. I'm making exposure circles/cheat sheets for photography. The base file is a pdf with the two circles. The other two files are doc's to put notes on the front of the small circle and back of the large circle so there's always going to have to be at least two passes. -- "While you can teach an old dog new tricks, you simply can't teach him to be a cat."

I still don't understand why it only mucks up the second and third passes. If the page is getting crinkled, even slightly, on the 1st pass it could cause that issue. |

Two passes are better than 3, though.
Here's what I'd try...
Convert the pdf to image or, if contains vectors, preserve using wmf format instead. Programs like Illustrator can handle this.
Open up Word and embed the image or wmf with positioning/wrapping set to "behind text". Then add text boxes lined up to where you want the text to appear. -- My Site |
