Re: new line installed and first one goes out The uni-3006 series (6 line) which is currently stocked is the only approved SNI for residential homes. The 3003 was only approved for Trailer use, at least in the Legacy Qwest states. The 3 line SNI will work fine but there were some concerns with space and the up and coming pair bonding. |

Thanks for that, I didn't see know it did. |

There is no specific nid for a trailer The 3 line and 6 line nid can be mounted to most any flat surface The 3 line and 6 line nid can be mounted to a pipe of the correct diameter |

 | reply to whatthe hell Believe what you want. If a manger did a quality on this tech he would have to replace the SNI with a 6 line. In this case Im assuming there is no conduit for your drop (direct bury) this is why your tech temped a 3rd line to your SNI. On all orders sent to contractors they are for 6 pair BSW on direct bury and conduit. The contractor is not going to replace the SNI unless its on his order. If it is, then this 3 line SNI was just wasted money out the door for CTL. This is why there are standers to follow. Most trailers are small that is why CTL uses 3 line SNIs for them. The old 2 line trailer SNIs were discontinued and the 3 lines were adopted in their place

 | reply to bkwyatt98 If I was the tech I would take that whole line out and replace it with all new line from the node from street to the nid then ran new cat5 from the nid to the house. Because that wiring now looks like total crap. |
|
 | the cat5 wire is brand new and how does it look like crap you have to strip the outer insulation to terminate the wire to the modules. the tech doesn't have permanent wire for the distribution pedestal that is all contracted out. |

2 edits | reply to bkwyatt98 You can run all the lines on one cat 5 without running with 2 different cat5 lines. I dont understand why they run that orange wire for the temp wire but shouldnt they run the whole new write from street/road to the nid with 6 wire instead of doing that way? |

His existing cable is underground with only 2-pairs. The DSL installer ran a third pair above ground to get the service working. A separate crew will be sent out to bury a new cable some time in the future. The installers are not equipped to put in new permanent drops from the street. |
|
 | reply to bkwyatt98 how would you run it above ground? |

| reply to bkwyatt98 For liability reasons, they don't throw the BSW on the ground and flag it any more. Instead, they use the orange JKT stuff for visibility. The DB crew places the new BSW, and often even cuts it around.
There's nothing out of the ordinary with the OP's nid. Looks typical of the thousands and thousands of nids I've met in my career. They did a shit job of bonding the drop, but I don't think that has anything to do with the OP's problem. Hopefully when they place the new drop they bring a bonding kit. -- ...because I care. |

 | reply to treichhart i have two cat5 wires because one goes through that wall to a fax and the other goes across my house to my server closet |
|
 | reply to nunya my problem has also been fixed, the first and second lines were crossed and the splice was not crimped on my third line at the distribution pedestal |
