| Need opinion 1973 | 2009 | |
I purchased this house in 12/07 since then I've been finding things that don't make sense. Like, the garage has had 1/2 the concrete removed and replaced. Cuts in fascia boards etc.
Well I work for the city I live in and came across an old aerial photo from 1973 (the house was built in 1966). To me it looks like the northern part of the house and the garage is missing.
I would like you all to give me your opinion on the photos...
The color pic is from Google Earth taken in 2009.
Sorry the pics are not the same size. -- "Safe in the permanent gaze of a cold glass eye" |

 | The only difference I see is someone took in the garbage between '73 and '09... They look the same to me. |

 | reply to KirkyInCT That's a tree that is no longer there. |

I was able to locate the property on Google Earth based on your location (Lompoc) and a lucky shot at zooming on streets that run North/South.
Here is a picture similar to the one you provided. I circled what appears to be the new sidwalk.

Using the timeline from Google Earth, if you go back to 2006, you can't see that new sidewalk, and it looks like there used to be a tree there, too.

Perhaps root problems with the sewage? That could call for some serious digging.
As far as the northern part of the house and garage missing, I can't really tell. The furthest back the GE timeline goes for that area is about '94, and it looks like the house to the north is just as close as it is now. -- Shine on you crazy diamond... |

 | It was root problems and that is why the tree is no longer there. They planted the tree right over the sewer lateral. Discovered that the first night we were here. -- "Safe in the permanent gaze of a cold glass eye" |

I'll try to point out what I'm talking about... |

rockotman...Blown On The Steel BreezeEmerging Research join:2000-08-06 DSotM | I think that is just a trick of the light... the 70's pic looks like it was taken during the winter months, where the sun would be lower in the sky, resulting in a very low angle of incidence on the northern side of the roof, making it look darker, while hitting at a higher angle of incidence on the southern side of the roof, making it look darker.
The pic from 2009 was taken in June, with the sun higher in the sky, thus a more perpendicular angle for the sunlight and thus no real appearance in difference on the north or south. -- Shine on you crazy diamond... |

As far as the concrete goes it could be about anything. My guess is that the old concrete was just crumbling and they replaced it. |
