using ubnt with microteck?

So getting close to time to order. Can the ubnt cpe equipment be used with microteck access points? I will have all microteck setup at the tower. I will be using PPPoE and NAT, for the time being.

It can if you use the non-Airmax mode of the ubiquiti equipment. You'll lose the TDMA features, will see hidden-node issues and have a lower # of subscribers per AP (max of 30-35).

A good match for us was using Mikrotik Routers at each tower (RB1200 or RB1100ah) and then using Ubiquiti Sector APs in bridge mode. This way, we get the best of both. The Mikrotik is best at routing, and the Ubiquiti has best wireless performance. Works very well.

I would certainly use airMax UBNT CPE gear which has an upgrade path should you want to use UBNT GPS AP clusters and MIMO sector antennas with side-lobe suppression shields.

I have areas with 40 to 50 clients on a Mikrotik AP. If you don't have clients continuously hammering the AP, you can get up to 40 to 50 without the airMax TDMA polling.

Let the AP radio does what it does best...Be a radio. Don't bog it down with routing or bandwidth management features, let the Mikrotik handle that.

We use ubnt dual chain cpe on mikrotik based dual chain APs powered by the ubnt SR71 PCI card and mikrotik R52Hn cards. Works very well even in a mixed g/n environment. Set your rts ! Don't recommend plans with symmetrical uploads. We have 40 plus cpe on one ap with excellent performance and see no problems going to 50 as WHT said

It's an excellent upgrade path but keep your contention for upload as low as possible!

Also I have yet to see any Merlin based cpe work in B mode well.

It's usually best to use the same vendor if you can. Helps in several ways.

1.Less finger pointing if you need support
2.You can use things like Nstreme,airmax, or whatever the vendor's proprietary methods are.

Anyone who puts up Access Points these days without some sort of polling protocol are going to be going back and scratching there head once they get a heavy downloader or 30 customers on the AP. Do it now and don't look back.
