[BC] Slow download/upload

I'm on the 25mb turbo plan and lately my speeds have been off. I checked the connection status on the modem setup and everything looks alright there:

Downstream Rate: 31496Kbps
Upstream Rate: 3071Kbps

However, when I take a speedtest, this is the result I get:

Try another server. Vancouver is not very frequently giving full speed lately.

Tried Burnaby and Bellingham:

Almost looks like your internet is on a 15mb profile. The speed is too consistent between servers for a 15mb profile both upload and download. The speed showing on the modem is normal for a 3HD connection with either a 15mbps or 25mbps internet connection if you have TV. I'd say call in and have the connection checked if you are set up on 25mbps.

I get by far the fastest, most consistent and repeatable results using the Burnaby In2net Networks speedtest server.

I wish Telus would host a speedtest and pingtest server.

Thanks. I'm aware of that. My comment was specifically for Telus to host speedtest and pingest servers. It would be really nice to be able to know what the performance of Telus infrastructure is.

There ya go. It still sucks, I get ridiculous ping and the upload didnt even start for me but supposedly that's hosted within telus' network.

I get much slower ping and download speeds with the globetrotter test. I get better results using speedtest on the burnaby server. However, as nss_tech said, the results you are getting look like you are on the regular profile, not the turbo profile. If you haven't called tech support you should. Ask to speak with a supervisor if you get blown off.

My ADSL (Telus) connection has been completely crapping out for around 1-2 months now, lucky if I can clock 1.6Mb on my 6 connection. Over the weekend I hit a 1300ms ping and 0.7Mb down. No, I haven't called tech support this time, I'm done with sitting on hold for 30 minutes just to be told to turn off my modem for 20 seconds.

My solution was to switch to Shaw, if I get 10% of my bandwidth I'll still be getting 2-3* more than Telus on a good day. 2 more weeks of dealing with this and I wash my hands of em. Ptooey.

There is obviously a serious problem with your line. If you are not getting support, then ask for the problem to be escalated. They can and will fix the problem, but they need to know about it first. My line is very reliable. There is no reason why yours should not be as well.

This is such a joke. The upload speed I've gotten these few days is just ridiculously slow.

This happened to me last night and I spent a couple of hours with lev.2 tech support trying to figure it out.
It seems to have been related to an upload my wife was doing. As soon as the upload finished things were fine.
She was uploading a vid file of 1.4Gb to U tube.

I just ran 3 speed tests from 3 different sites (telus, terago and speedtest.net) they all had the same result of 5Mbps d/l and 0.7Mbps u/l on a 25Mbps line, looks like i'll be giving telus a call in the morning.

This is the speed I am getting. I should get around 20mbps on turbo 25. Sometimes I get around 17mbps, but most of the time it's around 13-15mbps.

Are you sure that nothing else could be downloading? Just to be sure, power off or disconnect STBs and all other PCs. Also, reboot the PC. Since you are getting 2.85 down, you must be on the right profile so you should be getting up to 24 or so download speed.

Well here is an interesting tidbit to share with you on a similar note. This past fall, when my wireless modum died, Telus replaced it with a new one. In the process of having their internet support people getting it hooked up, a very honest Phillipean support person could not understand why it was not getting up to high speed. After further digging around, he got back to me to tell me that in fact high speed was not available in Lloydminster at my address despite the fact that over five years earlier I had signed up and was paying for high speed. The long and short of it was that I complained for the over-charging which was over $800 at that point and Telus agreed to pay out $400 of it immediatley in credits to be applied to my existing phone and internet services. After that, they would apply the remaining $400 we agreed upon to my internet bill going forward on my now downgraded "Highspeed Light." Fastforward to today- I find out my Highspeed Light is barely operating at the minimum speed because of their continued Hub issues so I have decided to drop them from being my internet provider because the service does not even run fast enough to allow viewing of streaming video. Now they are refusing to pay out the balance of the last $400 owed to me. I think it is important to understand something- Telus overcharged me for years on a service they themselves admitted they were unable to provide and have a moral responsibility to do the right thing. Now my options will be to recover their remaining overpayments that I paid in small claims court as well as to let people in my community and others know that this is happening. On both of these counts I will dig my heels in and follow through- they have underestimated my ability to write letters to the editor of newspapers and my legal follow through!! Lloydminster is not some small town in a northern outpost that feels it is lucky to subscribe to 14K dialup services- it is a community of 30,000 located between Edmonton and Saskatoon! So you know that this is not an isolated experience for me- there will be many others not only in Lloydminster but all over who have been overpaying for a service that Telus can not provide!!! People need to go after Telus and have them go back and compensate them for overpayments. This is a very real possibility for what you have experienced with your slow run times...I suggest you start there.
